Not everyone is an idiot or a warmonger in India. Lt Gen(R) Panag feels there are zero chances of any war or major military confrontation and PA is a competent military, hence if war happens somehow, it is difficult to predict the outcome.

Not feasible. You can't go to war due to skirmishes. You can't carry out limited strikes with stand off weapons if your adversary can retaliate in kind. That would be counter productive.

Actually, I was agreeing with you, and adding on to what you said. I only disagreed on the Indian victory. As for nuclear war, neither country would survive, so it's not even worth calling such an event a victory for one side over the other.

I would also like to point out that only the 71 war can be considered an Indian victory, and even then Bangladeshis don't agree because they think that India only took credit away from Bangladesh. If I recall, 47 was a stalemate, 67 was a UN mandated ceasefire and Kargil can't even be considered a war because of how limited in scale it was.

India for the first time directly accused the Pakistan army of involvement in an ambush in which five Indian soldiers were killed, and said the incident would hurt warming relations with its neighbor and hinted at possible military retaliation.

"Our restraint should not be taken for granted, nor should the capacity of our armed forces and resolve of the government to uphold the sanctity of the Line of Control ever be doubted," Defense Minister A.K. Antony told parliament on Thursday, referring to the de facto border dividing the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir.

"It is now clear that specialist troops of Pakistan army were involved in this attack," he said.

Pakistan has denied any involvement in Tuesday's attack, possibly the worst such incident since the two nuclear-armed rivals signed a ceasefire in 2003.

Chance of a war breaking out are next to none.

However on basis of past trends, rest assured, we will have similar number(if not more) dead Pakistani soldiers on Pakistani side, these death will not be as high profile as killing of Indian Jawans, will not get as much media coverage, might not be even a single incident.

As of now India is trying to maximize the diplomatic mileage gained from portraying an image of peace loving neighbor, who is being provoked by a rouge neighboring army.

Element of surprise is not available, as Pakistani troops are also on alert, hence launching an immediate retaliation makes little sense...let the matter cool a little..and then deliver justice upon those responsible...without drawing too much attention to yourself.

The crap is in your post mate, the MKI is not exactly the Rapptor of the East that Indians often gloat, it doesn't even have any battle records to show for it'self, whatever package they may fly in, the two fully armed busted weren't exactly on a goodwill visit. As for Kargil, aircraft flying within their own airspace and painting the adversary is no biggie, a flight of Fulcrums also gave a good tone to a couple of F-16s.

- Yes MKIs are not Raptors and so are the "teens"
- Even your F-16 aren't battle tested
- you think painting targets in opposite air space from your own territory is no big deal but same time you are making bug deal of paining targets in your own territory
- And I wander what you ACEs thinking when they lock MKIs ??? Why not shoot ??? It would have balanced the "Atlantic" score.
- and such incursions are just warnings of what could happen like few bombs busting Pak posts inside border,

- SOP for MKIs is heard of 5/6 for offensive missions but you wont understand that as you are happy in believing your guies made them run if they stayed to fight you might have other opinions.

- BTW F-16 sorties were stopped after those painting incident and the reason given by PAF was lack of spares and high consumption of scare resources
