India has expressed interest in possibly purchasing ten C-17 Globemaster III

India’s Ministry of Defence and the Indian Air Force submitted a Letter of Request to the United States government, inquiring about a potential acquisition of 10 C-17 Globemaster III advanced airlifters. Boeing Co. (BA: 62.20 0.00%) recently completed a series of C-17 demonstration flights in India, as the nation has been interested in replacing its current fleet of airlifters (Russian AN-32 and IL-76 aircraft). The deal is potentially worth billions of dollars.

The C-17 Globemaster III is a high-wing, four-engine, T-tailed military transport. The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is capable of rapid strategic delivery of troops and cargo to main operating bases, or directly to forward bases in the deployment area. Theaircraft is also able to perform tactical airlift and airdrop missions when required. The inherent flexibility and performance characteristics of the C-17 force improves the ability of the total airlift system to fulfill the worldwide air mobility requirements of the United States.

Maybe MoD should clear things with the finance ministry first, before embarrassing itself again by cancelling a competition after final selection!

I am still unable to understand, when it comes to buying something from USA "foolproof contract, careful, TOT.." these terms i see a lot.

Why India is scared of buying things from USA. Go for Russia & Europe (i personally prefer if India buys from Germany, but as long as India has France as a close ally i don't see that in near future).

In my view buying things from USA is completely secure on Indian perspective. India before and now is different!!!

The fact that US has the best Technology and the best price for that Advanced Technology compared to France for that matter, India has no options but get these from US.

US products are more costlier than Russian, but will definately be lower than European.
But the fact that American products come with best available tech and with political bonuses as well we get no option atleast for products like - P*s or C130s or the Globemaster or even the F18s .

BUt ma'am most of the weapons are devaloped by Europeans together right so even if we buy from France there is a share that will went to Germany..and also I think German submarines wil be in the contest for next group of submarines India intend to buy and with the sound technology of Germans in submarine I think there is a good chance that Germans will win

I agree.
But still it Depends on what they offer.
They offered Marlins to PN and It wont be easy to convince the Indians with what PN refused.

I personally think German 212s are Good but Russians too can be awarded this deal as a consolation since MRCA is not going for them.

I think they are offering Marlions to us too..I totally agree with the bolded part
