this report is giving very valid point actually.
the fertility rate in east asia are terribly low right now
Six coutries with lowest fertility rate in the world.
Total fertility rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
225 South Korea 1.72 1.22
226 Japan 1.41 1.20
227 Republic of China (Taiwan) 1.76 1.15
228 Singapore 1.16 1.10
229 Hong Kong (PRC) 1.27 1.04
230 Macau (PRC) 1.30 0.91
Actually the fertility rate of PRC given in wikipedia (1.54) is wrong! the actual fertility rate according to 2000 national census is 1.22! the fertility rate of Shanghai is 0.7 and a district in heilongjiang province has the lowest birth rate in world - 0.4!
the first national census in 1950s says Han chinese accounted for 98% of the whole population, in 2000, it dropped to 92%. and 4 out every 10 new-born babies are non-han people.
By 2100, India, USA, Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan will have more population than China. At that time, Eastern civilization will wither with no doubt.
Most Indian posters here are on guard because they know they will get thrashed if they get too crazy. However, TOI is a mainstream English media outlet with a large audience in India, and the views it expounds are popular amongst the masses.
Having said that, I don't see anything too harmful in these 'predictions'. It's good to be ambitious and they improve national morale.

I can't believe that the fertility rate in Northern China is even lower than in Shanghai.
This is a book review for another India author with similar ideas.
Chasing a Dream
Based on the shaky premise that India is capable of catching up with China, this book will appeal to Indians if not the Chinese.
BY Ninad D. Sheth
A joke of a review! China has full spectrum dominance in all aspects of industry with regards to India. From the smallest semiconductor transistor to the largest ships, there is nothing manufactured in India superior to that manufactured in China. Even their saris are better off manufactured in China. Eventually, even Indian people will immigrate to China to give birth, so Indians themselves will be made in China.
Yeah because that's part of the article we're laughing at.
New Recruit
So we have to believe only that China is going to cross US in 2 decades..but not this? thanks but no thanks. Unless we believe we can, there is no point in trying. And please keep your haughtiness to yourself.
