India hails World Bank decision on Indus treaty

face it son, iwt is very heavily favoring Pakistan. that's why modi wants to pull out. But keep smoking what your smoking. whatever rocks your marbles!

And thats what we want to change.IWT should become inversely proportionate with Terrorism Pakistan is exporting.

The minute India decides to stop the flow of water...China will do the same and divert the river to Pakistan. This will be expensive but not impossible.

WOW.Someone should give this guy a map.

All India is planning -
1. Hydropower projects in which JK govt is also a partner. Many jobs go to Kashmiris involving direct employment, indirect employment like supply chain. These projects also bring prosperity to nearby villages. It will not stop any flow of water. Anyone can see impact of a big hydropower project in India or Pakistan on nearby area.
2. Use water for storage in wullar lake to improve connectivity in valley. This will be as per treaty which allows India to store some water. Directly beneficial to valley. More employment too.
3. Increase irrigation by 1 lac hectare which India is under utilizing in JK.

All are beneficial to Kashmiris without violating IWT. What Pakistan simply does is keep on blocking these projects which are for improving lives of millions of people. Let people of J&K prosper.
Else we will use that money for purchasing weapons and Pakistani will cry over that too.
Let us build barrage, canals, dams, power plants. In context of IWT our stand is just that Pakistan cries over everything and slows down development in that area.

Uhm no, right now the status quo favors Pakistan. That's why modi is crying about pulling out, he knows it favors Pakistan. You see? The brahmaputra river is all but gone for india, China releases the water when it wants to so india is at China's mercy. And because of that, india is now facing a sever water shortage. indian farmers are getting hurt. On top of that, modi has to abide by this agreement and give Pakistan it's share of the water as per this status quo. So modi wants to unilaterally pull out of this agreement so that he can fulfill this water shortage which, as we have stated as the national policy, will lead to war.

So this wb's pause at best, only gives india a chance to think over things. Because pause or no pause, our policy remains unchanged; touch our share of the water and it will be a war. Simple as that. And given how deeply bogged down 70% of the indian army is in kashmir right now, a war with Pakistan is not looking too good for india.

Am yet to get clarity ... on *crying* .. who is crying..

it will give them time to complete anti pakistan projects. but the process will start again after january as india won't try to solve the problem.

We are free to build projects to utilise our water share.. which previous govts ignored .

Wullar barrage which India says will benefit Pakistan as well...history online -

"The project has an interesting history. In 1912 Punjab government had approached Kashmir Durbar seeking permission to construct a major barrage on Wular Lake for helping irrigate parts of Punjab where Rabi crops were not getting enough water. The Durbar would get Rs 75000 every month as royalty but it was not agreed to.

Later in 1924, the Punjab government came with a renewed proposal offering a yearly royalty of Rs 1.85 lakhs. The princely state rejected the proposal again believing it might lead to water-logging in most of the north Kashmir"

This is what India still saying. Let us create a barrage or navigation channel for Kashmiris which will benefit Pakistani farmers too but for some reason Pakistani govt is not ready. I hope China is involved for construction of barrage. Pakistani might not disrupt this project then.

Apparently they don't teach physics, geography or even common sense in Pakistani madrasas. Unless Pakistanis believe that China is equivalent to God, a normal human being with an iota of grey matter would realize that it is scientifically impossible to divert a stream of water to higher ground via the Himalayas more than 3000 kms away to the great land of Pakistan. Check the map. The part of Brahmaputra that flows through China is just 1 of the several tributaries that feed into the Brahmaputra river system. Several others like Lohit originate in India. There are enough trolls here my friend. Please don't troll yourself. Thanks

Munna your rear end must be jealous from all the shit that comes out of your mouth. Apparently in the Hindue temple they don't teach common sense, however, this is expected when a group of spasticated people believe in a monkey:) Tell me do you people normally kiss the monkey's pink rear end?

China by 2050 through the South/North water project will divert some of the river from Yarlung Zango which is 3000-5000 meters above sea level to Northern China. Thus, it's not impossible for Beijing to transfer its water to Pakistan, although the cost would be extremely high. Why have you come to a Pakistani Defence Forum? Are you that desperate for our attention. No go and eat some curry on a banana leaf or something.

Nanni 2050 still far away from 2017.. On what basis you think like that.. BD is end user of this water.. Why would China divert water by hurting BD.

Only the complete idiots that form part of the population that exist across the border can decide to paint a halt on THEIR projects as a victory for them.

Essentially, the WB is implying that the treaty needs to be reworked in terms of what projects are to be allowed or not.

I believe bigger idiot would be the one,
who would misinterpret world Bank scrapping the two separate arbitration processes in favor of bilateral dispute resolution, as halting of the project itself.
Project itself is going on, there is no stay on the construction of the the dams.

Wouldn't you agree?

For long term water security..Pak-China will eventually end up working on some kind of glacier diversion problem because 2/3 of the glaciers generating water for Indus are bordering Pak-China. Just that the water router i long and encircles China, Tibet, Kashmir, India and Pakistan.

Nope, what is being celebrated is premature. Basically, each side tried to contest the other's move, the WB simply said hold it. There was no win or loss here, rather the WB is now going to look at alternatives.
There is no bilateral initiative here.

Such ideas make good plot sci-fi novels but don't make much economic sense in the real world.

Who would pay for it?

Can Pakistani farmers afford spending hundreds of billions of dollars for water they get for free?

In such case Pakistan would better off installing large scale desalination plants. At least that technology has some precedent.

There is a dispute resolution mechanism in IWT.

The first step of that DRM is bilateral negotiations.. Only if the fist step fails can either party approach WB for dispute resolution.

Since India has suspended Indus water commission talks.

Here Pakistan had approached WB directly for dispute resolution, to which India had countered.

Now since world Bank has to abide the letter of the treaty, it is asking both parties to implement step one first.

In the mean time both the dams are being built. This move by WB buys India more time to construct the dams.

For there is another provision in the treaty, where if a project has achieved a certain level of completion, its design can not altered.

Now you know, why Indians are happy about this descion by WB.

So you assume dams are also made for free? who paid for CPEC?
Rubbish post for hyper-venting emotions..

The world bank's influence ends where it's dollar does.
