NEW DELHI: A national-level handball player in India allegedly committed suicide after she was denied free hostel facility by her college authorities in Punjab state.

Pooja, 20, was a student of BA-II and her body was found hanging in her room Saturday morning.

Police reached the spot and took the body to the hospital.

Deceased’s father, a vegetable vendor, handed police a copy of the suicide note addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which Pooja rued that she had to end her life since she was poor and could not afford to pay for the hostel facility, Indian media reported.

Urging the Prime Minister to ensure that a poor girl like her be provided free education facility, Pooja held one of the college professors accountable for her death claiming that “he was the one who refused to give her the hostel room and asked her to commute from her house every day. However, this will cost me around Rs 3,720 per month and my father could not afford it”.

Her father said Pooja was upset since she was not given the hostel room. Even though he tried to convince her that things would be fine, she ended her life.

Based on father’s complaint, police registered a case of abetment to suicide against coach of her team. – Samaa

So sad to hear of such tragedy - just goes to show the 'haves' and 'have nots' in the Zionist Indian society. May ALLAH AoJ guide and help the helpless, everywhere, amiin.

Poor girl. RIP
But suicide is not the answer sometimes. . .[/QUOTE

The poor ordinary Indians have no choice, they are forced into such actions. So sad.

That culprits shall be booked soon, it also highlights the sheer apathy that our system holds towards genuine needy....

But to all such ppl as in OP.... Make your choice before giving up your life...

emotionally unstable people...
Absolutely correct. They think that if anything does not happen according to his or her wish, it is end of everything. Sall yahan to zindagi mai jo kuchha chaha us main se kuchh bhi nahi hua fir bhi zinda hai , aram se.

Just look at the responses of these rats here. PITIFUL. They're not acknowledging the root cause, let along, accept the problems within their society. It is the government's responsibility, whether in india, Pakistan or elsewhere, to provide for basic needs of its PEOPLE and ensure their well-being. That's what the government has been put up there for and paid for, by these very PEOPLE.

These Brahmos, GDP growth, Bollywood success..... are all useless if the society is still struggling with BASIC needs. Applies verbatim to us Pakistanis and any other nation.

Agree that goverment should work for people and provide and take care of especially poor people, but if you start commiting suicide at the age of 20, because you cannot afford a hostel room and goverment is not providing it for you then I think half of Pakistan, India, Afghanistan etc. people can commit suicide, because she is far from the only one who is disappointed by authorities-..

You are 20 years old. It's not the end of the world if you cannot afford a hostel room. Clearly she had lots of other issues which are not stated in the article. No one commits suicide over a single issue.

One should fight fight fight. Suicide is not the answer. People close to you would mourn for a week, but life goes on. You will be forgotten sooner then you think.
