The point is, the type of competition that Jay is advocating is not to the benefit of India. It is to the benefit of India to lie low, cut armed forces (because realistically, China can't attack India without political backfire but if truly needed, can crush India like a bug; this was the same dilemma faced by China vs. US+USSR in 1980's and we took the risk of being crushed and cut our military) and invest in infrastructure.
One Su-30MKI can feed 1 million farmers. 1 million farmers rebelling due to starvation will severely damage India far more than whatever the Su-30 MKI can shoot down.
Do you understand this is a military thread, its like science, every object has 2 equal forces.
So if one SU-30MKI can feed 1 million farmers, then the opposite effect is, one SU-30MKI can save 1 million civilians!
