this is good move.
how much they will pay to have an apartment in these buildings?or free?

I think those who got evicted during redevelopment will get free apartment,Builders will make profit by selling extra apartment.Its a win-win situation for all.:cheers:

In most cases the slum dwellers get free apartments. The land that is freed up is used by the developers for profitable ventures.
Since land is so scarce in Mumbai these kind of developments are possible. In other cities, the slum dwellers usually pay a small amount for their apartments.

Good initiative but most people living in slums tend to live close to where they work. People living in this rehab project might just abandon their place or rent it to someone. Plus if there isn't any mode of transportation to take them to inner city, its basically useless.
Would you abandon a apartment worth a few crores :cheesy:
They might rent that place but in most cases they move to a cheaper place and use the rent money to pay for their living expenses.They wont be allowed to build another shanty town.

The best example is public housing estates in Hong Kong and Mumbai is pretty similar to HK when it comes to space.

Trust me this apartment in mumbai even if its 1BHK is not less then 30 lakhs(60 lakhs in PKR)...now even if they rent it out then they will get 15,000 at the least so that's enough for them to get a good place somewhere.
But i think that they mostly work as house aids or in nearby factories,rickshaw drivers etc so they don't need to move far away from their house,IMO.

And then in cities like mumbai people are used to commuting 30-40 kms daily and the rail connectivity is everywhere and cheap too so they are easily mobile.

To tell the truth , i don't think mumbai has a bright future.
No matter how much money is spent it can only make it livable but not great. It is over pressurized and even though billions $$$ are being in infra development in and around M but it's not gonna have a big impact.
It is actually a shanty town. The urban planning is simply not there and now its too late to correct the mistake.
With skyrocketing housing prices even higher then manhattan.

India needs to create more cities and that's the only solution to accomodate the population.
Projects like GIFT(Gujarat International Finance Tech City) may be the future and it may leave mumbai insignificant

Private refineries lead export boom for India
Indian capacity has increased by almost 50% in the last five years, making the country a regional export hub and meeting rapidly growing domestic demand. Much of the expansion came in the private sector, which now holds a combined 1.6 mb/d of capacity, or a third of the country’s total. This year alone, capacity has expanded by 400 000 barrels a day (400 kb/d), through one new 180 kb/d refinery and expansions at existing plants. Projects scheduled to be completed in 2013 would add a further 420 kb/d. In October, India processed a record 4.5 million barrels a day (mb/d) of crude oil, nearly 18% more than a year earlier.
