It depends there is no doubt that certain infra projects CAN change social problems for sure either as an unintended bi-product or on purpose.

No one is denying that India still has huge social problems... but just because we are talking Infra, doesn't mean that other areas are all being neglected... your statement sounds like things are 'deteriorating' in the last few decades, which is far from truth. Of course, the progress is not as expected in each area, but there are lots of other initiatives (and many more that are still required).

But taking your comments positively, what we can try and do is to post some updates on initiatives on social/human-development front as well. As of now this thread is very 'infrastructure heavy'. (I hope you still acknowledge the fact that all this infrastructure development is also very important and adds to the economic development of people in far-flung areas, which they reflects in the general human development).

I can think of at least the following topics of social/human-development that must be discussed in this forum since it deals with 'India Developing'. Other forum-veterans, feel free to add:
1. Education (Right to education, sarv shiksha abhiyan)
2. Healthcare (rise of specialist healthcare, medical tourism, national rural health mission+insurance)
3. Improved Emergency services (availability of 108 services in many states, with response time <30 mins.)
4. UIDAI/Aadhaar project (eliminates corruption, gives id to the poorest, identify duplicate beneficiaries)
5. Reforms in banking & insurance sector. + Income tax department's BPR
6. Passport process improvement; seva kendras
7. MNREGA (Employment guarantee scheme)
8. Schemes for the BPL (below poverty line) people
9. Various eGovernance initiatives/single window initiatives of the Govt. (Eg. automation of land records, centralized driving license system; centralized criminal database and police records; bill payments;
10. Right to Information (RTI)
11. Lokpal bill and its progress (or the lack of it)
12. Satellite program and its usage in science and education
13. Panchayat system/village level administration
14. Telecom penetration and the impact of connectivity

These topics are of course not as interesting as Infrastructure, and I don't think people will be keen to read much, but I do hope people share information and their views on how things can be further improved.

A historic rail link to Kashmir Valley​

Northern Railway made history on Friday as the first train chugged through India’s longest railway tunnel in the Pir Panjal mountain range, connecting Kashmir Valley to Banihal town on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

The train, on a trial run, arrived at Banihal station from Qazigund in Anantnag district of Kashmir, and was welcomed by hundreds of residents of this highway town.
