Bangladesh Import electricity from India By july
The Bangladesh government will import 250-megawatt electricity from India by july, 2013. which will cost Tk 4 per unit excluding transmission expense.
Power Secretary Manwarul Islam and Indian Power Secretary P. Uma Shankar made the disclosure after a meeting of Bangladesh-India Joint Steering Committee Thursday.
They discuses mainly two thing, coal based Rampal power station and 250 MW electricity import situation from India.
The meeting also expressed satisfaction over the working progress, including the cross-border transmission line installation cost.
Indian Power Secretary said maximum installation and development works have been finished and rest of the work would be completed before July next.
In July 2010, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) signed a 35-year power transmission agreement with Power Grid Company of India Ltd. (PGCIL) to import 250-megawatt of electricity from India.
P. Uma Shankar was co-chair along with Secretary, Power Division of Bangladesh, the 5th meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Steering Committee on Power Cooperation.
This meeting will be preceded by the first Board meeting of the “India-Bangladesh Friendship Power Company”. The India-Bangladesh Friendship Power Company is a joint venture between NTPC Limited of India and Bangladesh Power Development Corporation, that has been formed to build the 1320 MW thermal power project at Rampal in Khulna.
In addition to reviewing the progress on the Rampal project, Indian Power Secretary will also discuss the progress in the procurement of 500 MW power from India, and initiatives to expand cooperation in the sector between India and Bangladesh.
