What's new

India could have saved as much as $3.2 billion on construction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train

India-Chinese relationship is at an all time low this is one of the contributing factor in this deal!
Maybe when relationship between neighbours gets comfortable again there is no harm in getting Chinese investment back!

.
Well, Chinese are pissed off at this India-Japan thing.

What do they expect us to do when they threaten us with war.

Yeah, but we are not buying a 10k phone. It's a multi billion dollar project.

Pray tell me, At what interest rate Chinese banks give out loans? 0.1% ?
Pissed off? I would say relieved. Thank God Chinese won't have a big chunk of investment tied up in hostile environment.

Going by the same logic, India also must be relieved because if China were to build it, there was a chance that the project would be at the mercy of a hostile power (which is actually more likely to happen), eh?

On topic, this is certainly not the last Bullet Train India wants to build. If anything, this is a pilot project and the deal itself had more political considerations (in view of current situation) than financial.

If and when India opens up other routes and if Chinese companies win competitive bid, why not?

Exactly. So, I would just dismiss this news as nonsense. Trade only flourishes in peaceful environment. In other places, it carries a much bigger price tag. In this case, if China bid, it might have to present a loan with much higher interest rate or bigger overall price to offset the heightened risk, which automatically puts it in a disadvantaged position than Japan. Therefore, Japan would win anyway. So, what is the point for China to bid and what is the point of comparing potential saving if China bid?

India companies are expected to get a 60 per cent slice of the contracts for the Rs 80,000 crore Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project that is being bank rolled by the Japanese government.
Not bad when Japan is financing 81% of the project.

More than that, 99% of the employees will be Indian. While constructing the project and while operating and maintaining the bullet train.

From where I stand, this deal is just about as sweet as it gets.

Pakistan is the "safest" place for the chinese to invest. :P

Its one of the safest countries on earth you know :D

I only buy Japanese when I can. That made in Japan label is almost always a guarantee of high quality. I can't say the same about stuff labeled made in China.

. .
What did China and Chinese expect when they keep opposing India at every step for silly reasons?

We would gladly loose a few billion dollars.

And there is a small matter quality. In the long run India would have saved tens of billions along with securing it's strategic interests.

That type of thinking is exactly why you are still essentially a third world country.

A couple billion dollars is a HUGE deal especially for such a large country with a huge population like India. You desperately need to upgrade infrastructure.

Do you think Arab countries like doing business with America? We don't but we recognize that in order to improve and make our countries better that we need to deal with people we have a complicated history with.

China is a incredibly talented and strong country, to skip over them simply because you may not agree is what is going to get you screwed in the long run.

Everyone needs to do business with China at some point. There is a reason why they are a permanent member of the U.N Security council.

Can't resist the temptation to take pot shots at another 3rd world country without the basic understanding of the situation, can we?

Memo! Despite our own complex history with China, our bilateral trade might soon cross, G*d forbid, 70 Billion dollars of which our deficit exceeds 50 Billion! Save your breath, you are only preaching to the choir!

And like many others have quoted, this is only a small (in relative terms) pilot project and there is nothing stopping China, in principle, from bidding for other (in fact, much bigger) HSR projects.

It's now pretty obvious that you didn't understand my comment.

I know China is felling bad. That's like 17 billion dollar project that could have very well gone to them. Had they had good relationship with India. The stupidity of Chinese is so high that even without much of issue they are able to spoil the relationship purely because of their attitude. This is a cry river thread by Chinese.
