This airport was earlier handled by Airport Autority Of India and Ministry of Civil Aviation GoI. In 2006 it is privatized and GMR( Which has built an excellent airport in Hydrabad) got it through bidding. Now this Airport is being modernised and will be complete by 2010. Currently it has 3 runways and the 2nd largest in Asia. This airport handles 60 aircrafts per hour. As per GMR this kind of Airport in world over ( heathrow, singapore..)were completed in 56/60 months. But this will be completed in record 37 months.
