India and China: Can two tigers share a mountain?

keyword here it tibet, twang and kashmir. This where these two are fairly entangled these days.Kind of pressing each others raw nerve contest going on for pat 10 months or so.

If such low-level disagreements can stop cooperation, then maybe the future is bleak.

Did you know that the Imperial Japanese Army killed 20 million innocent Chinese civilians in WW2? Yet now China is Japan's biggest trading partner.

How many died in Europe during WW1 and WW2? How many died to the Nazi German army? Yet now... Germany is the biggest and most productive player in the European Union.

Now after all that, if you think that "some hot words over Tawang" will stop cooperation between China and India... then what can I say?

Yes there have been conflicting statements from the Chinese govt officials, but I haven't heard it from the Chinese Premier.

Additionally Tibet is already recognized by India as a part of China and the Tawang issue heated up because they didn't want the Dalai Lama to visit it. This is the reason why India should clarify its stance and resolve the border disputes with China at the earliest.

Now regards Kashmir, I agree that Pakistan's govt is asking for Chinese help them corner India. China should realize that this is a issue between India and Pakistan as the rest of the world believes and is something that has to be resolved mutually. The more parties Pakistan's govt involves the more complicated the situation becomes.

Kashmir is the tricky part, since many people see it as a zero-sum game. Being nice to one side, will invariably draw anger from the other side. (Not to mention that China also holds around 20% of Kashmir territory in the form of Aksai Chin).

However, the problem of Kashmir won't stop the rise of Asia.

Russia has problems with Chechnya and the Caucasus, America has problems with the Middle East, China has problems with unrest in Xinjiang/Tibet, India has problems with Naxal insurgency.

Everyone has their own problems, but that doesn't stop us from reaching for the sky.

Each time I read headlines like these I cannot help but get the impression that the world wants ( expects ?) India & China to clash.

I see no reason for a clash. What will happen & is happening too is a jostling for space which is natural given that both teenagers are beginning to realise their own potential and happen to live on the same street.

Of course many powers in the world want China and India to fight.

They see the "rise of Asia" as unstoppable and frightening.

The only thing that could possibly stop the Asian century, is a war between China and India.

Do they care that a Chinese-Indian war could possibly kill millions of innocent civilians on both sides? No... but *I* care. Because the innocent civilians that will die in such a war, are my brothers and sisters.

Thats my perception as well... the west is very apprehensive that their dominance over the world economy is rapidly diminishing and there are fears of a negative inflation spreading outside of Japan and into the western world if the Asian economies keep the current pace of growth.

But if our leaders realize this quickly, it would be in the best interest of both nations. A huge amount of funds can be diverted from the military expenditure to spreading the growth into the poorer sections of the society and both can benefit from mutual trade and cooperation.

Thanks for the videos Varghese, and shekhar too. They are very interesting.

Hopefully the peoples of Asia will soon realise that if we cooperate with each other, the Asian century will truly begin.

I tried to translate the above (Tian yi) into Hindi, and this is what I got: Taiyara Devata (तैयार देवता).

Is that correct? The English equivalent is "God willing". In China we don't say "God" in these situations, but instead say "Heaven" (Tian).

Lol... kudos for attempting to translate this... Although I am not a Hindi expert, but I think it should have been भगवन करे (God willing; Bhagwan Karey) or as in Urdu انسہ الله (Inshah-Allah)

Just a bit of an interjection:

There is a saying in China that "Two tigers can't share a mountain................................... Unless one is male and the other a female". Well unless China and India wants to get... ahem... you know.

Currently India's biggest trade partner is China. Surpassing the US. I don't think theres the smallest possible chance of us going to war with each other in the near future.
