India against sending UN probe team to Sri Lanka

Our friendly SL fisherman have been caught entering Indian territory on Purpose too, for poaching for tuna. This has been happening since ages, Indian fisherman from kerela and tamil Nadu might cross into sri lankan side, but sri lankan fisherman go right upto Andhra pradesh and Odissa

More SL fishermen & their catch seized by Indian coast guard

Poaching of tuna is a serious security lapse, say police - The Hindu

Sri Lanka now asks India to release fishermen

so sir, you can clearly see , Both side's are at fault as i have said before

Sorry but

1. SL Fishermen does not trespass to Indian water like how the TN poaching fleet does, No does the SL govt try and lie about occasional poaching done by few Lankan fishermen from time to time.. They let the Indian law deal with it.. They dont make it a political agenda.. The SL authorities respect the law of the sea and IMBL unlike those in TN.. If you want to see the difference between the two issues pls read this..

Maarten Bavinck, director at the Amsterdam-based Centre for Maritime Research has been researching the impact of the Indian incursions. He told IPS that more than half the estimated 5,000 trawlers based in South Indian fishing harbours like Rameshwaran and Nagampathan depend on Sri Lanka fishing grounds for their catch.

After the Tigers, Fishers Face Poachers - Sri Lanka | ReliefWeb

Not denying SL fishermen too tress pass time to time but pls dont even try to equate the two

2. No Kerala fishermen have been arrested in SL waters.. Not of any significant number anyway.. Only those in in organised crime in TN seems to be oblivious to IMBL

I hope you will understand the simple point based explanation given, Because it seems the detailed facts presented over 3 pages seemed to have just slipped over your head, While most of the other posters have at least acknowledged clear facts

That would be a rare instance, because normally fishermen from kerala do fish in arabian sea rather than bay of bengal.....They have a better chance of getting fish in that area than near katchitheevu ,not because they are saints, but that would be expensive and inconvenient......

criminal poaching deep into Indian territory isn't good enough to you ?
Sorry to burst your bubbles but Sri lankan fishermen are coming into 100's of nautical miles into Indian territory
isn't that across IMBL sweetheart ??

Katchchateevu is not the issue here, It's just an excuse to keep robbing others.. Vast majority of TN poachers are caught no where near the islet but on the East Coast and North Western coasts miles away from it

I know, few months back i was in rameshwaram.... and been to dhanushkodi.... I happened to speak to few of the locals in this issue..... I wont share what they said here for obvious reason.....

Did you even read what i posted before getting your panties in a twist ? No body denied SL fishermen tresspass in to Indian territory.. But as individuals not as mass scale poaching that TN trawlers do.. Read what International experts on fishing industry say.. It's not some SL based source.. Over 2500 trawlers from TN poach in SL waters almost daily

Plus most SL fishermen are caught off Anadman islands not main land India.. And they dont use internationally banned fishing methods detrimental to marine life and the eco system like the TN poachers do

They openly unashamedly acknowledge it mate.. Even to the press.. Giving excuses of dwindling fish stocks, After decimating Indian waters by bottom trolling and saline fishing, Internationally banned methods.. Like i mentioned earlier the only reason SL is'nt going to International Criminal Courts over this is because of good will with New Delhi, Because it's the central govt that will be answerable not those criminals in Madras

Srilanka is also aware of the Indian coast guard efforts......

They have been caught off cost of Andhra Pradesh and Odissa, lakshadweep and Andaman, fishing for Sea cucumber(protected under indian wildlife act) and Tuna.
now as you say number of Indian fishing boat vs sri lankan, its can be an issue of massive diff in population. State of tamil Nadu has a population of 71 million vs 21 million in sri lanka

as per fishing techniques i agree they are a bratt. Spank them if you can

Both country should sit and deal with it like adults as Sri Lanka is not going anywhere as well as India so if we are going to live here then why don't leave peacefully ?

Sri Lanka and India should sit and try to solve this matter by bilateral talks.

where did i say SL fishermen do not cross the boundary. But the number of SL fishermen crossing is minute when comparing with poachers from other side(per day we can see 1000 TN fishermen ).

But that is not the point.

The point is people in SL, or even SL gover do not make a fuss asking for the arrested fishermen and creating havoc. We are pleased to let the law and system of your country to operate. And we expect the same from you. Got it?

uptill 1974, both nations jointly administrated the island, all she is asking why India gave up claim of the Island. Again since it belonged to her state, she has the right to go to Supreme Court

If she can prove the claims then Indian supreme court will slam the govt of that day on why India gave up claims
If she cannot her case will be dismissed
I dont see anything about such claims what i saw is JJ asking indian gov to take back Katchchathievu and not to respect IMBL.
That means she very well knows TN fishermen are crossing the boundary deliberately and she is approving it.
I dont see why both countries need to administer an island that belongs to SL.
even your TN CM is objecting to administration of IMBL by Indian gov.

Jaya opposes installing buoys on IMBL with SL
Your central gover has already issued CLEAR stance on Katchchatheevu. Your gover has already said that there is no question on fishing rights and ownership of the islet and that these are settled issues.

Kachchatheevu was not ceded to Sri Lanka - India

"The Indian government on Friday informed the Supreme Court that the question of retrieval of Kachchatheevu from Sri Lanka did not arise as no territory belonging to India was ceded to Sri Lanka."
"The Centre said as per the two agreements, no fishing rights in Sri Lankan waters were bestowed to Indian fishermen. Under the agreements “Indian fishermen and pilgrims will enjoy access to visit Kachchatheevu and will not be required by Sri Lanka to obtain travel documents or visas for these purposes. The right of access is not to be understood to cover fishing rights around the island to Indian fishermen.”

If she has any prob with what your gov did, these two can settle it (indian gov has already stated it is settled matter).
This is nothing about territory or any fishermen issue. This is she is trying for some face saving after the humiliation she got frm central gov. And we SL do not want to tackle this with TN Cm as we consider only Indian central gov as a worthy partner to have such talks with. If TN CM wants to poke her nose in these issues, considering her mentality in post menopose condition we in SL can arrange her a meeting with Jaffna urban council officers.

and how does your 53 answer my qn?
where did i say SL fishermen do not cross IMBL.

If you find it difficult to comprehend this is what i said. Your gov can arrest any SL fishermen who crosses the IMBL and act according to your law. We do not meddle in those things.

Same way let we protect our IMBL and punish the ones who illegally enter SL side and rob our resources.

Sinhalese are the rakshasas, they are more weddid in phenotype than tamils are,
when it comes to our territory, our country we are fierce than your rakshas

Both country should sit and deal with it like adults as Sri Lanka is not going anywhere as well as India so if we are going to live here then why don't leave peacefully ?

The problem is your central government and SL government both see this as a settled issue.where fishermen of both sides can be arrested if they violate IMBL.

It is the TN state that is obstructing the due process.

I don't converge with flagless posters and by posting Tamilnadu politicians doesn't mean anything to me as they don't make foreign policies.

Okay, if it is as clear as you say, why do SL fishermen cross to the Indian side ?

The question is not about why people cross the IMBL. It is about organized fishing by the Tamilnadu fishermen who use illegal bottom trawling technique. Beside those fish who resides within the SL side of IMBL and the sea bed are SL properties. SL cannot allow Indians to reap benefits out of it.

SL can forgive innocent fishermen who are drifted to SL side of the IMBL knowingly or unknowingly but the because of the organized gangs even the innocent cannot be spared.

Well in a part , yes. The fishermens see the fishing areas as their traditional fishing zones, which date back to thousands of years.
Second the Katchateevu, a Island ceded by India to SL on a friendship basis of 1974, without permission from the State Assembly. Though a agreement can be reached on Katchateevu to allow Tamil Fishermens to Fish here, I do not find an option of mercy for other areas where they are caught fishing.
Before 2011, killings of Tamilian fishermens took place, now beatings, tearing of Fishing nets, seizing of boats take place.
I suggest return of the properties after their sentence is over. Its a delicate issue.

Traditional fishing zones? Does Panjabi farmers still visit Lahore to pick their harvest saying it is our traditional farm? This is such a BS. It may or may not have been their traditional fishing zone. But not anymore. They should know how to respect other countries' territories. Besides as gibbs said Those poachers even go as far as the Eastern sea board of SL.

SL has the moral authority to even shoot those poachers if all the other methods to stop them fails. No one can cry foul over that.

India, Sri Lanka and the Kachchatheevu Crisis: A Fact Sheet and Possible Solutions by Prof. V. Suryanarayan
it is a weak case, the central govt had given up the territory, The centre will loose and jayalalitha will win. The island came under the Madars constituency.

and how does your 53 answer my qn?
where did i say SL fishermen do not cross IMBL.

answer is already there
population
creating a fuss or not. both sides are committing the same crime
While tamils claim the island, SL enters deep inside the Indian territory beyond Tamil nadu, which is a grave misadventure

The question is not about why people cross the IMBL. It is about organized fishing by the Tamilnadu fishermen who use illegal bottom trawling technique. Beside those fish who resides within the SL side of IMBL and the sea bed are SL properties. SL cannot allow Indians to reap benefits out of it.

we here are talking about a conflict, Central govt had gifted/ if not ceded a island to sri lanka, which that state is fighting a case for. Again, if you ask me that tiny island doesn't have a drop of water an is useless for me, but for people of tamil nadu its shores have plenty off fishes.

If they can prove govt of India ceded it good for them, if not good for them
