NEW DELHI: India’s home ministry has admitted making a mistake in a list of “most-wanted” fugitives thought to be hiding in Pakistan after a terror suspect was found living in Mumbai.

India handed the list to Pakistan earlier this year but only made it public last week as it sought to ratchet up pressure on its neighbour in the wake of the death of Osama bin Laden, who was found living near Islamabad.

The list was prepared by the home ministry in consultation with investigating agencies and included the name of Wazhul Qamar Khan, who was wanted for his alleged role in the bombing of trains in Mumbai in 2003.

But Khan has since been found in the outskirts of Mumbai, where he is out on bail after being arrested by local police over his apparent role in the blasts, local reports say.

Home Secretary G.K. Pillai on Tuesday acknowledged the gaffe.

“The ministry takes responsibility for mistakenly including the name of Wazhul Qamar Khan,” he told the NDTV news channel. “We deeply regret the blunder of including his name in the most-wanted list.”

The ministry has ordered a probe into the mistake, a home ministry official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

India blames Pakistan-based militant groups like the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) of carrying out many of the attacks in the past years.

It also accuses Pakistan of providing a sanctuary to Mumbai’s underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and LeT founder Hafiz Saeed, accused of planning the 2008 Mumbai attacks in which 166 people died.

In 2008, following the Mumbai attacks, India also served Islamabad with a demand to hand over 20 “most-wanted” criminals and militants.

. .
So this guy was in India and yet was still on the list of India's most wanted criminals/terrorists supposedly hiding in or being hidden by Pakistan.
Guess there are intelligence failures all around.

.
I asked only one question back in that wanted list thread, and that question was "who makes these lists in India?" and all the indians overlooked the question in their typical over enthusiastic efforts to prove that Pakistanies are in a state of denial.... !

.
Aah the bureaucracy.

Just one more flimsy excuse for people to protect murderers! Buy hey, who needs an excuse?

.
Yes Indians do mistakes but those are Indians too who identified and rectified that mistake.

.
Did he accept that the WHOLE list is blunder ??? :undecided:

this indeed is shocking and a sad incident.
Indians should understand that Pakistan is not their biggest enemy (stop, where have I hear that before?) it is their own home grown terrorists that are an existential threat to India, even master Mohan Sign Je Maharaj said the same about Naxals.

I wonder what Indian Home minister ChukrumBukrum has to say about that? It has to be ISI conspiracy? I am trying to dig the reports about what they found out from the terrorist. Was he making a log distance phone call to ISI office in Islamabad?

Normally they find Pakistani currency, movie ticket of rawalpindi Odean Cinema, Perwaiz Kyani greeting card, PM Gillanis hpone number, Pakistani Ufune sim, Jamat dawa bran digestive pills, Lahore’s Anar kali’s cloth house receipt and a photon auto cannon.

Yes you are right in saying that biggest threat is from naxals because it comes from our own people. Rest we can finish anytime. We do mistake and we accept it openly. Its not pakistan or other nation who point it out but its our own system who identified and rectified it later.

Pathetic troll attempt with no substance.

.
only one name slipped into the list does not make the list a blunder or does it in pakistani terms??

That slippery of one name made the entire list's credibility suspicious. Dont you think that due care must be taken while giving any such list to the country with the intention of defamation. This is the case where indians are caught red handed, there must be other instances which remained unveiled.
