Is that true? The only benefit I got was when in school from 5th std they took monthly fee of 5 rupees, then next year 6 and so on until 10th. That was for all girls in govt aided schools in Maharashtra. I do not know what the status is now.

And i've studied in Andhra ( graduation ) . . . every OBC,SC,ST student was getting scholarships from the state government. . irrespective of their financial status. . .

I was going to edit my post. That is seriously wacky though. So 50% of all students in Andhra get free college education? Medical/engineering and any other fields?

Not free exactly but around 70-80% of their total fee. . . And yes it is in every field

Even the free college education for 50% of the students is as dumb as it gets. Wonder how they run the Engineering and Medical colleges. Does that make any business sense? Or like they reserve some 10-15 seats in medical colleges for these people and sell the rest of the seats in management quota or some such $hit and pull wool over people's eye?

But it will be better if the reservations are given on the basis of financial status only. . .Be it a dalit or an Upper cast. any other type of reservation is mere exploitation.

Naah its like these students will pay to the colleges. . then they will submit the receipts along with their others documents . . . . and Govt. will pay them back into their accounts

It cannot be for any other caste. Reservation is meant as a restitution for socially imposed disabilities. It should not be given to rich SC/ST at all or even beyond the second generation recipient of even SC/ST regardless of financial status.

People who fall into poverty for issues other than socially imposed cannot be seen in the same light. If reservations is across population just for poverty, then wherein would lie the incentive to get out of poverty?

They suffer because their ancestors suffered and were kept backward and poor, dont tell me after 1947 everyone become equal. Only on paper but not economically.
