Yeah do you know what happened in the Sino-Vietnamese War? China wanted to show that it could ignore the Soviet Union's mutual defense treaty with Vietnam, and so invaded deep into Vietnamese territory, destroyed a ton of infrastructure and left.

The entire point was directed against the Soviet Union. Vietnam was just the battlefield.

China had the northern part of Vietnam scorched and won territory from Vietnam, not the other way around.
I agree the Vietnamese are a formidable force, definitely more respectable than the Indians(1962).
Vietnam can be proud that they acquitted themselves remarkably well in that border war, but its not something to crow about since they had to cede territory to China.
