In Future we should get Gripen NG for our AF

Hopefully our 1st light aircraft prototype will be flying within 2021 from our aeronautical centre, after that a fighter will not be a hope.

In Bangladesh we are just hope hope and hope............. I also hope we buy Gripen NG.

Selex Galileo is not Swedish. You want to buy a Swedish plane using American engine, Italian/British radar, and Russian/Chinese missiles? Then, why buy this highly expensive but least useful plane at all.

Can Sweden supply dozens of aircraft at short notice in times of war? Does Sweden have this massive manufacturing capability? Which 'ally' of ours does have this massive manufacturing capability? The same one that is the largest manufacturing power in the world. So, is not it much better to purchase cheaper (at friendship prices, through diplomatic skills), complete aircrafts with all subsystems sourced from the same country without any restrictions, and the possibility of replenishment in times of crises?




None of our current missiles are ARH BVR capable, AFAIK. Why purchase expensive birds without powerful claws? Or, why buy expensive but blunt swords for fighting any enemy?

So, better go with tried and tested, reliable, and completely 'independent' countries like China, Russia and for subsystems/upgradation, Ukraine.



Bangladesh's airspace is not small. Who gave you that idea?

Size of airspace has nothing to do with procurement of aircraft. Ask the so called "Israelis" (just making a point; you do not need to ask them). Ask South Korea, North Korea, Singapore, and hoardes of other "small" countries.

Bangladesh has an air force, but no separate air defence command. We should beef up the air force now, and form the air defence command first, then strengthen it.

Gripen NG is way too expensive to buy and to maintain. And what is more important that it falls behind Su-27SM2, Su-30MK, Su-35, FA-18EF, F-15SE, EF-2000, Desault Rafale (all of these aircraft are dominating the non/semi-stealth airspace). In 2013 we should not consider buying fighter aircraft that falls behind these aircraft. Our procurement in 2013 should be strategical making our footstep glow in years to come. We may consider procuring in low quantity, considering 4 major airbases we need 64 multi-role future-proof fighter aircraft like Su-27SM2 or Su-30MK3 or FA-18EF or better. We should in this case consider $30 to 50ml per uint cost, making it roughly $2.5 bl budget. This is what BAF needs but might not be what they can afford. The can go for loan purchase or may devide it in batches of 2 or 4. But anything less than this will be a total waste of money...

Bro, Gripen NG will be the lowest cost to operate and maintain AC and it is proven. Gripen NG will come in 2017, it is expensive for us but it wii be very good for us.

Go ahead bro BUY 10 Gripens and bee happy with out awacs Electronic Warfare equipment etc when you can spend money in a better direction and induct two types 4++ gen Fighters with a Plethora of Weapons and Awacs with Data link and Electronic warefare equipment with COuple of Battries of hq-9(s-300) based SAMs which will make your Country a better defensive and offensive air Force then COuple of just Gripens with saab weapons and AMerican Engine and Italian Radar so you are at the mercy of SANCTIONS

Israel,S.Korea,Singapore are rich,N.Korea starves its own people to buy weapons.....wouldn't it be cheaper for us to have a better Anti Aircraft system then to buy Advanced fighters??How about some S300s from the billion dollar deal??

If there's any bar in receiving the weapon, I never support only procuring the hardware. Besides, with 75 ml USD perhaps we'd be able to procure 5 Mig 29 type ACs if I'm not wrong which are proven platforms. If your wish is to integrate Russian or Chinese weapons on Gripen, why don't you decide for their fighters? Previously we faced huge difficulties in integrating and operating hybrid hybrid systems...example is Ulsan class frigate which was from Korea but all western weapons were not given, later we had to fit Chinese ones on board. It's always wise avoiding stuffs that are not allowed to sell to us in part or completely.

Pakistan has chinese aesa awacs, J-10b(testing system) on order and jf-17 operational(tested in War on terror in wazirstan and swat) and now the sanction looming again because of the iran pakistan pipe line pakistan will ground its f-16 like it did before and it does not care about f-16 this time because jf-17 does the same thing what f-16 does and have a longer range radar then f-16 and now it has awacs to work with with data link lets say jf-17 can now detect air craft at the same range as the awacs and can engage multiple target without function its radar remaining silent and undetected you have to look the air warfare not just planes specs, you have to look at planes weapon system and their abilities to perform under different situation and PAF is a Proven AIR FORCE its not like a lolipop iraqi air force or arab air force like syria or saudi arabia where they buy expensive stuff but do not achieve nothing

If we dont buy Gripen NG. I would like to buy 32 JF-17 X, 32 J-10 X and a 32 J-31 X with 2 trainer version each if they offer better avonics and options then some west ACs.

I don't think you read his post carefully.

The BAF currently operate mostly Chinese and Russian aircraft. And much of its avionics and inventory are only compatible with Chinese and Russian platforms.

Acquiring a US or any NATO platform would require a complete overhaul of BAF's complete system. Additionally, Western birds typically require more infrastructure than Russian ones. And this would be prohibitively expensive for a cash-strapped force such as BAF.

In the past, the integration of Chinese and Russian systems into the Uslan-class frigate was a very costly matter. Typically, the Koreans use mostly American equipment, and that frigate was originally only compatible with NATO systems. And that explained the high cost of the acquisition.

The Americans would never supply Bangladesh with fancy toys like Harpoons and such. Let alone F-16's. Though, that is not to say that they hate us or anything. And sometimes, it is best to keep a low profile.

American weapon acquisitions always make a lot of noise throughout the global media for some strange reason. And for a poor, weak and 3rd world nation like Bangladesh, that would not bode too well for its image, as much as for suppliers like Boeing, SAAB, etc.

I really do want Bangladesh to have a strong military. I'd even go for F-35's and F-15's if wallet and politics allowed us to. Screw Gripen NG! But, let's stay patient and realistic.

Before anything, can we please remove the current illiterates and their lackeys who are ruling our nation!?
