Something is most definitely happening outside of Rafale. With the comment of another fighter under the MII from MoD in the TATA-Boeing Apache fuselage plant recently. They're trying to get a private sector production going. Eyes are on TATA.
What if they want to make an F-16 block 70/72 with AESA, IRST and American EW/ECM for around 50 to 70 million $ to compete against the Russian Mig-35 and SU-35 and the Chinese J-10.. they certainly have their eyes on cheap labour ...

36 off the shelves Rafales are coming anyway....Its about fighter to be made in India and India to chose a fighter among Rafale, F-18SH,F-16 and Gripen. Why? What happened to the Rafale?
Its always a political decision in the end. But i'll wait until more confirmation. Because the Indians want F414 lic production in India. Does this new F16 line offer a new F414 engine with it or F110 flavour? Also, I don't know why India is going for F-16s, seems like a poor choice. They'd be adding a new system, one that is a fairly old design, and just adding to their over all operational costs. I don't know, it seems like this was more of a political decision, rather than one based upon Indian defense needs.
Not to mention that people are starting to stir away from the F-16, because a F-16 successors already exists...they're called the Rafale and Typhoon.

What you mean , the wages in the US and in India are the same? how it is not relevant? than according to you the US might as well continue manufacturing the F-16 at home.. So to the contrary it is much relevant in cutting costs.. in the millions per plane!!!labour costs are not that relevant when it comes to high value products costing millions
Heartburn ?HAL dsnt care, they know their jobs are secure.if they are really worried we would not have seen them work things the way they do.It's going to cause HAL folks a lot of heartburn knowing TATA quickly got the deal to integrate C295s, and now possibly a fighter jet... In a matter of couple of years... Ouch..
