What's new

In change of stance, India supports talks with Taliban

. . .
Kerry 1, India 1/2

Lets be very clear, Afghan owned and Afghan led and all that - but the real reason the Talib are in Doha is because the US wishes to see them there for her own interests - will Doha mean peace in Afghanistan? No, it won't, will it then mean civil war? No - So what will it mean?

US bases in Afghanistan in return for a pie at the Afghan Government high table?

The real question is why you have so many gay videos?

It will mean American and Pakistani interests will be secure. For America that includes at least one base for a certain amount of time and economic security (pipelines etc). For Pakistan it will be mean a friendly force in the Afghan government and a check of Indian influence. For the Taliban it will mean the lions share in government if they make some social reforms that will prevent a backlash (stop bombing girls schools for one).

This is unrealistic, especially this Indian influence bit - rarely has so much made of so little

.
After going through this thread , I have just realised , Pakistanis just need some reason to be happy. Just about any reason would do.

India supports negotiations with the Taliban and Pakistanis go crazy .

Guess what,

Peace effort should be Afghan-led: India

India always supported these talks. :coffee:

Taliban will not reform itself . They will continue being what they are. That is why nobody , including common Afghans want to see them play a major role in the government.

.
Than why is it now? Because end of the day its pakistan whose facilitating the process and it was our idea....

Just because we are supporting talks does not mean we are supporting Pakistan's line on this issue.

Pakistan wants to see Afghan Taliban rule Afghanistan or at least have a major role in any future Afghan government.

India's expectations from these talks are different. India expects Afghan Taliban to either drop their weapons immidiately or expect a rather minor role in the future government on Afghanistan.

Lets see which way this goes. I don't see Pakistan's wishes coming true to be honest.

. .
and who is India? why is it hard for you thick heads to understand you area non-player this is why nobody asked you to come for talks....thats why you got left out.....now just to save face you guys are cooking up such hideous statements

India does not need to come for talks. Our position as posted by me earlier in post #83 is simple, the solution to Afghanistan should be led by Afghans. As long as the Afghan government has a major voice in the negotiations it doesn't matter if we are there or not.

And please try not to use insults like "thick heads" and all when you run out of proper arguments to make. It's better to just shut up.

.
indian support or no support doesn't matter, the only reason they are given little importance is due to karzai.

my dear the term Thick Heads was needed to be used as i have been explaining to indians in last 4 threads on the same topic, but you guys won't listen, it is not me who ran out of arguments in fact there is nothing to argue about.

Afghan people have been given a place in Talks - and that is through High Peace Council, which has been tasked with this assignment. They have been involved in talks, but Process has been led by US, as its them who got more at stake than others.

It is your homeboy Karzai who is sabotaging the efforts by creating hurdles in the passage of HPC. that is why he is loosing support in his council.....

Every country does what it has to do for gaurding its interests.

When the final draw down happens and you are in the driver's seat then we can enjoy the party.

Surprises are part of politics we never know who will be flipped and for what he flipped.

Even if till now India was not in the game and is an early entrant what it offers on the table will decide certainly the result.

This i say assuming we weren't secretly talking to Taliban till now, while i truly believe we are good at International diplomacy.

But if we were already talking then this is just for public consumption and we are out in the open.
