Secularism and tolerance are the most important wealth of this nation and the opposition must stay united and not let any backroom deals happen- This fascist Govt- must go- Parliament must not function till then- I am feeling suffocated in this environment- can't eat my beef-

The irony in your statement is that the word "Secular" was added to the constitution of India via the 42nd amendment in 1976 which was the most undemocratic rule that India had since it's Independence.

THE CONSTITUTION (AMENDMENT)

It is, therefore, proposed to amend the Constitution to spell out
expressly the high ideals of socialism, secularism and the integrity
of the nation, to make the directive principles more comprehensive and
give them precedence over those fundamental rights which have been
allowed to be relied upon to frustrate socio-economic reforms for
implementing the directive principles. It is also proposed to specify
the fundamental duties of the citizens and make special provisions for
dealing with anti-national activities, whether by individuals or
associations.

Given the way Modi tries to run the foreign policies, Sushma must be given the most important job of effecting deals.
A political dawn is needed on this govt to realise the importance of Sushma ji
She is being ignored by this govt mate. She is actually the most acceptable face of the bjp by the others and she is being ignored as all is being centered around two individuals , Modi and amit shah. The bjp has now become exactly like the congress.

.
Actually sushma is a friend of sonia, that she was attacked was just politics. she is respected in the congress, and she would be a great asset if the bjp could effectively use her.
But will she even be used?

Sure she is  .......... Sushma is Sonias best friend.

THEN let us talk about any bigger role.

Sushma is no congress supporter but at the same time she is a light weight in BJP as she does not have RSS back ground.

The current FP is being run directly by Modi, PMO, NSA & FS. Sushma is just a figure head & rubber stamp. She should have put in her papers when Sujata Singh was fired.

You are completely misinformed.

Sushma Swara is a Child of the RSS. He father Hardev Sharma was a prominent Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) member back in the days when RSS was "badnam". Her entire family is hardcore RSS.

Sushma started her career with the student Wing of the RSS i.e. ABVP and became one of the leaders of ABVP.

She is also a Sanskrit scholar, one of the few people to take her oath in sanskrit.

In today's Global Geo Politics, most Executive Head of states have to be directly involved in Foreign policy since they are the chief Ambassador of their nation. Look at Moid's foreign tour and compare it with ANY other World leader, Obama, Putin, Xi Jinping etc. it is Similar.

But the EAM is still run by Sushma Swaraj.

As for Sujata Sing's exit, it has more to do with the need to bring in S Jaishankar since his term was expiring in January 2015 and once that happens, he could not have been made Foreign secretary as per GoI rules.

S Jaishankar's father is also the father of modern India diplomacy and Jaishankar is widely regarded in the Foreign service. His wife is Japanese and that provides added advantage to Indo Japan ties. And unlike Sujatha singh, Jaishankar also speaks Russian and Mandarine.

There is no better FS in India today.

As you have stated, Sushma's father is from RSS. She came to BJP from ABVP. You could argue now that AVBP is technically the student wing of RSS not BJP but you know the ground reality.

All I am saying is she is where she is because of Advani. Modi has sidelined the Advani's and Joshi's of the world with the age factor but he could not apply the same for Sushma. He grudgingly made her the EAM but took away her power by bringing his FS. FS has been directly working with PMO/NSA with Sushma just being a spectator and rubber stamp. Of course any failure like Nepal would be attributed to her while successes would be attributed to Modi. Hence, I stated that she should have resigned the day Sujata singh was fired.

I do know the ground reality. ABVP is indeed the student wing of RSS. Its a misconception that its part of the BJP.

But since it a student organization, many BJP leaders have come from ABVP like Sushma Swarja,, Arun Jaitley, Sambit Patra etc.

Sushma was a Proxy for Advani, keeping the chair of PM warm for him. She projected herself as the heir but she never had any popular support. However Sushma was leader of Opposition.

Obama made Hillary Clinton, his rival the Secretary of State. Modi made Sushma EAM. Its classic politics. Nothing special about it. It is just the smart thing to do.

Sujata singh appointment was COMPLETELY improper since she was appointed over S Jaishankar who was her Senior. Worse she NEVER served as an Ambassador in ANY Country so all her knowledge was Theoretical. She was probably the worst choice for FS.

I have no doubt Sushma Swaraj took great pleasure in replace her with somebody Competent. I am not sure why you are confused.

Sujata Singh was a CONgress appointee. You are talking from Pure Ignorance and Prejudice.

Jaishankar was Manmohan's first choice, but Sujatha was appointed by Sonia - The Times of India

It is learnt that Jaishankar was frontrunner to become foreign secretary in 2013, and was a personal choice of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. However, Manmohan could not have his way as Sonia Gandhi had the last word with Sujatha Singh's appointment.

Sujatha Singh's father was former IB chief T V Rajeshwar, an old Congress party loyalist.

I am not confused at all. I know that Sujatha Singh was a congress appointee and her family is close to congress. The point I am trying to make is that the plan and act of firing Sujatha singh and replacing with Jaishankar was done by Modi and not by Sushma. The deal that FS would directly work with NSA & PMO has already agreed upon prior to this act.

The onus of passing bills belongs to the govt , not the oppositions. This govt has not come out of its campaigning mode after elections of 2014. they have to build consensus and work with other parties. which they have not.
They needed someone like Pranab or Rajiv shukla to do backroom deals and to reach out to the OPP . Running parliament is not about rhetoric , it may sound good for the voters but nothing gets achieved.

well said...why the heck the onus is on opposition, if we go by that rule then the same BJP when were in opposition had opposed the GST...GST was congress's brainchild like Nuke Deal but BJP wants to take credit now!!

Its always the PMO who appoints the Foreign secretary. No Senior Secretary to the GoI gets appointed without the PMO sanction.

In fact not only the Sectary, ALL members of the Cabinet is appointed by the PM.

ALL of the, the Minister and their Secretary serve at the pleasure and Discrimination of the PM of India . That is how the system is designed to operate.

For all practical matters the PM is the most powerful man in India and the PMO is the most powerful Executive body. The NSA and every other post exist to serve the PMO and through that , serve India.

You are wrong on BOTH counts.

GST was always the brainchild of BJP.

In 2000, the Vajpayee Government set up a committee headed by Asim Dasgupta, the (Finance Minister of the Government of West Bengal) to design a model for GST and oversee IT preparations.

Second, US had discussed the Nuclear deal with Vajpayee, but Vajpayee refused to let US continue to treat India as a second class citizen. Unfortunately Dr. Manmohan Singh agreed to this.

In fact it was BECAUSE Vajpayee exploded the Second Nuke Test that US offered us the deal.

You are talking about technicalities, I am talking about the reality.

If all secretaries are appointed and work directly with PMO & PM, why do we need any other minister at all in the Cabinet?

Why Vajpayee didn't sign the nuclear deal

1) Pokran II plan was conceived by PVN not ABV

2) It was Vajpayee who succumbed to pressure and adhered to the voluntary moratorium on nuclear testing

3) It is Modi who is undoing/weakening the nuclear liability law
