Imran Khan wants Qadiani Atif Mian to be his Finance Minister | Rabwah Times

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Saturday said that after coming into power he would select his team purely on merit, which will consist of the most competent people both from the inside and outside Pakistan.

Khan said he would rather have people like Professor Atif Mian as his finance minister rather than Nawaz's 'Samdi' Ishaq Dar.

Atif Mian is a 39 year old Pakistani-American, professor of economics at Princeton University. International Monetary Fund (IMF) named Mian as one of 25 young economists who are expected to be most influential in the decades to come.

Mian who was born in Nigeria but mostly grew in Pakistan is also a member of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community a international revival movement within Islam. The Ahmadiyya faith is practically banned in Pakistan and its members face severe persecution across Pakistan.

Article 260-3 in the 1973 Pakistani Constitution declares Ahmadis to be “non-Muslims”. Furthermore, Article 298-B, amongst other things, prevents an Ahmadi from referring to his/her place of worship as a ‘masjid’ or referring to his/her call for prayers as ‘azaan’.

Last year in a widely circulated video message, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan said that he would neither revise nor repeal any current laws pertaining to the Ahmadiyya community, since these were in consonance with his personal beliefs.

Ahmadis have been quick to point out that on one hand Mr Khan wants to have an Ahmadi Muslim as his Finance Minister but on the other hand he and his political party the PTI effectively deny them their religious freedom which is a fundamental human right.

The discriminatory laws against Ahmadiyya Muslim Community have been widely condemned by Human Rights groups and the International community.

How does a bussiness men is qualified for finance minister ? what do a finance minister do? people suggest 10 or 5 local candidates. Lets figure out if they are qualified to do the job .

thats true not an IK supporter but i dont think he even knew that the guy was Ahmadi, second he said during elections he didn't need "qadiani votes" and if he really is interested in bring them in why not start with basic human rights first so they dont end up getting killed like Salman Taseer and Shahbaz Bhatti

in my 7 years of professional life i learn one thing, qualification don't guarantee a success, you need the other qualities of that field. in Pakistan most business tycoons are illiterate or hardly metric pass, but they are hiring bulk for highly qualified, get the idea?
lemme tell you why IK can't success in running business of the country its called perception/Trust.

Why we Pakistani's are so obsessed with this ethnic differences? its not about qadiani its about business community, how many investor trust this guy? no one knew him, try to get some one from these richest industrialist families who this business community knew very well and is known for his support for this system "sarmayadarana Nizam" :p and wait for tinkle down effect like what NS is trying to do now.

he doesnot want a Qadiyni to be his Finance minister, he wants a competent Economist, selected on merit to be in his cabinet, when it comes down to it and not some Sambandhi...

It is very unfortunate in our country that to hire some one for a skilled job; some ppl consider religious beliefs more important than relevant skills or merit .. it is exactly this reason why we have Zardari and Nawaz Sharif sitting and sucking the blood of Nation turn wise ..

We should pick the best brains to run this country regardless of their religion. If we follow this policy atheists/agnostics and non-religious people will be running out country. I am pretty sure this Atif Mian is a non-religious guy.
