Imran Khan sets 30 days deadline over US drone strikes

Nothing concrete will happen since the Govt and the Army will not lose the benefits that they reap.

If they meant business, instead of the 'cosmetic' anger now and then for domestic consumption, they would have brought one or two US drones down like what one of the threads had said about an Indian drone being brought down!

It is not the government that is protesting and blocking the Nato routes, this has no governmental sanction - in fact only opposition, but the masses have rallied up. The government has pretty much lost its legitimacy in Pakistan and hence people are taking things into their own hands.

Thousands attend PTI sit-in against drone attacks

Landi Kotal—The NATO supply would be cut off today (Sunday) on the second day of sit-in called by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Thousands of tribesmen have arrived in Peshawar where two-day sit-in was being staged on call by PTI leader Imran Khan against the US drone strikes in the tribal areas of northwest part of Pakistan.

The Pak-Afghan road, the main supply route for the NATO troops in neighbouring Afghanistan, was totally blocked on Saturday where thousands of people participated in sit-in. Several opposition and religious parties as well as tribal elders along with their activists have arrived in Peshawar.

Tehrik-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan who arrived here on Saturday evening in the company of tens of thousands of people has said the objective of the Sit in was to send a loud message to the United States that people of Pakistan were human beings and not animals and they would protect their rights if the rulers failed to do so.

Imran Khan was enthusiastically welcomed by the people of KP and FATA who joined him in the sit in against drone attacks and supply for NATO forces in Afghanistan said if the Pakistani rulers failed to protect the rights of the people, they would be forced to flee from the country. “The puppets of the United States would not be allowed to stay in Pakistan and will be forced to flee from the country as the people of Tunis and Egypt did with their rulers” Imran Khan declared amid loud slogans by the charged crowd. He welcomed Pakistani brothers and sisters who joined in the sit in and said people from all parts of the country including Pakhtoons, Punjabis, Balochis, Sindhis, Muslims, Christians and Sikhs were all present there. He was confident that the gathering would reach the figure ofone lakh and would prove to be historic. He said it was the beginning and not an end of the Movement. He said there was not place for corrupt politicians n Pakistan and the purpose of the Dharna is to free Pakistan. He said their war is against slavery and would in no way allow Pakistan to become a colony of the west. On his way to Peshawar the Tehrik-e-Insaaf Chairman made a stop over at Akora Khattak and while addressing the students of Darul Uloom Haqqania he said Jehad is mandatory against injustice, crimes and corruption and he has started a campaign for change in the leadership.

Imran Khan said drone attacks and logistic support for NATO forces in Afghanistan was part of the double standard policy of the rulers. He said, he would make an important announcement for future course of action. He sought the support of the students of Darul Uloom Haqqania and the nation to get rid of American slavery. Imran Khan said US and Europe were working on a conspiracy to discredit the Muslims and under it they have launched a war in the name of so called terrorism. He said in this war, Muslims and particularly Pakhtoon were being killed.

The tribesmen who helped free Kashmir in the 1948 war were specially being targetted in this war. JUI(S) Leader Maulana Samiul Haq speaking on the occasion assured full support to PTI for the protest against drone attacks and supply for the NATO forces in Afghanistan. He said he would join the sit in alongwith thousands of students. He said the whole nation would have to unite against the leadership on this issue. Earlier addressing a welcome gathering at Taxila, Imran Khan said the rulers have put the honour and sovereignty of the country at stake. He said patriotic tribal people were being killed through drone attacks and those responsible for it would be made accountable for bloodshed. After address large number of people joined his procession for Peshawar. Before leaving Islamabad for Peshawar Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman said that puppet government has failed to stop US drones in the tribal areas, adding that inept rulers were not paying heed to the sufferings of the masses. Talking to the media persons the PTI chairman said that our country has suffered losses of at least Rs68 billion. 34000 innocent people have been killed and thousands were left homeless in the so-called war on terror which the Pakistani rulers were describing as their own war. He urged all the people from civil society and from all walks of life to join the protest rally. The Americans were deliberately killing children and women of the tribesmen under the guise of chasing Qaeda militants, which they say were hiding in the tribal areas, only to settle their revenge of defeat which Americans were facing in Afghanistan while the Pakistani puppet government was not paying heed to the sufferings of the tribesmen.

“No one is there to defend the right of our people and certainly this puppet leadership is not going to do that,” the PTI chairman remarked. “I hereby make it clear that drone attacks were counter-productive and helping the militants and endangering the Americans”. Imran Khan said that the whole object behind the two day rally against drone strikes in Peshawar is to alert the Americans that time has come for change in the American strategy of chasing the Qaeda militants in bordering areas of Pakistan. Without mentioning names of the political parties and politicians that will join the protest rally, Imran Khan said that only genuine political leadership and those political parties understanding the essence of democracy will join the rally and we have invited them for the protest in order to convey powerful message to the Americans.

Lamenting the parliament resolutions, Imran Khan said that the parliament resolutions against the drone attacks have no importance because the matter is fixed at higher levels. Sources said that PTI’s activists joined the main carvan led by Imran Khan all along the way while people had come in large numbers from other parts of the Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and tribal agencies to join the sit in. Sources further revealed that provincial government complying with the directions of the federal government has signaled the Nato supply contractors to stop the supply for forces stationed in Afghanistan during two days of the PTI’s protest rally in Peshawar to avert any untoward incident.

The Dharna needs to be ongoing, two day Dharna will not affect Nato, drag it on for a month and then you'll see them bowing down.

Or finding other routes. Drone attacks for sure are not going to stop by this. Had this been happening in USA then it was a different story, but why would someone sitting in Washington DC or Pentagon give a dime about a few thousand people sitting in dharna on an obscure highway in Hayatabad

Will surely put some pressure on Pak govt, but i guess its used to it by now

Drone attacks continue because the Pak government is paid on an ongoing basis. Nato has purchased a "acceptable collateral damage" from the Pakistan government. Once the payments stop the only recourse for the Pak Government would be to seek support from the masses and not its foreign masters.

Also if Nato goes through another route (completely bypassing Pakistan) that too would be in accordance to the wishes of the masses who are sick of being a bombing target due to this support we provide to the Nato.

It won't be a cake walk Nato countries would fight back too, but you can't win a fight without throwing a few punches.

Update is i had to drive all around Hayatabad to find a way to get to ringroad.... Seriously why he chose residential place to do this dharna... Half of Hayatabad is suffering.

Jerk, isnt he ?:P

PTI should continue the DHARNA...it is going really affective, people are distinguishing between him and the conventional parties.

I am not qualified to talk about Pakistan's internal matters nor NW, because i do not know much about it, but i have noticed that pakistan have a poor Diplomatic team, which is unable to convince US that it can take care of its internal matter. US will do just about every thing to protect their interests. They dont care a damn about other countries.

Hopefully this Dharna becomes successful and the army can complete their mission to root out antisocial evils plaguing pakistan.

Even if tommorow the US pack up their bags a leave, there is no guarantee the drones will not strike. Pakistan should convince the US effectively, for that to happen, law makers have to unite in one voice to the wishes of Pakistani people.

And what benefits do we reap, if i may ask? Please enlighten us. The claims of mountains of US aid pouring into Pakistan have been debunked many times, I hope that you have some other intelligent information to share with us.

One has to see it with an open mind and not through jingoism.

Count the money given, the cost of the weapons and weapon platforms given and then the transit fee and not to forget the IMF and World Bank Loans (these are controlled by the US).

Now check how much is owed by Pakistan to the IMF and WB as servicing fee and the sops given, if any.

BTW, with all the activism that has been enumerated as having been done, has the supply stopped?
