I think the reasons could be mix of security, avoiding impression of dynastic politics and prevent his ememies to rake rubbish of the kind @snow lake brought up. All in all a wise choice. Pakistan just a needs leader. Not interested in his family etc. Leave the dynasty/family politics o Sharif and Bhutto clans.
