Its evident the deal for 22 AH 64 Block3 will be signed very soon. In Army Aviation Circles air is Hot that Number will increase to atleast 60. Purely from creation of Air Cavalry would like to know views of Members on Force Multiplication. No Bubbish comments please.

The Apache can also be used to patrol the borders as well, these beast are devastating against terrorist that try and hide in the dark etc, India really has made one of the greatest investments in its armed forces with this bird.

Just have a look on youtube how the Apache takes down terrorist in Afghanistan and on the Pakistan border as well.

Indian army ??? I thought it is for IAF ........

It's good news if IA and IAF both are getting these beasts :D

We dont used Armed Heptrs for Counter Terrorism Operations. Using a APKWS ,19 Hydra 70 mm or 2.75'' Rocekt Pod costs USD 20K Too costly. Your French SNEB too expensive as well. Russian UB 32, 57 mm Rockets cant be installed on AH 64.

Nor Mi 25/35 with UB 32 pods have ever been used. Else than the Kargil armed conflict

I think Apache is the proven machine. looking to the history It's absolute successful heli. we really need this machines however we also need TOT so we can add or improve some criteria of the LCH. although I also thinks that DRDO must start its work on
(1) AH-6 like very small heli
(2) medium range heli multirole (IMRH)
(3) black bird stealthy (used for laden killing)

Apache has Radar on Top, the glass of cockpit is made from such material which can be unbroken in firings, many time attacks made on the apache and its successfully survived. there are only few loss in the war. better used at Iraq war and Afghanistan. Good Machine thats all.

This competition is for IAF, to replace older Mi 35s, so no relation to IAs airwing. IA now gets Rudra and in future LCH to provide their ground forces the needed fire support, be it against enemy troops, armored vehicles or tanks. So they are not dependent on IAF helicopters anymore, which mainly rules our the use of these Apaches in such normal roles.
IAF instead might want to use the upgraded avionics and radar capabilities of the Apache for reconnaissance, command and special attack roles, because these are the fields were it will offer credible advantages over Rudra and LCH, especially with the Block 3 features, although it must be seen how compatible these features are to Indian forces systems and how much customisation is possible wrt CISOMA and other US restrictions.

So main fire support will be done by indigenous combat helicopter, which will be procured in high numbers of IA and IAF, while these Apaches are meant as a proven and high tech addition for certain roles, which don't require similar high numbers.

:) I would have prefered Comanche helicopters for these special roles, but the Apache will be a good addition to IAFs capabilities too. However, way more important they adding them would be adding armed drones and that's a field were we still lack behind!
