Hire some good real estate agent ... they know how to rent. People are trying get lower rent through some this type of stuff ...

Vastu Shastra is architectural designing of buildings and placement of furniture in the house. It is similar to Chinese Feng Shui.

Vastu science is being followed by lot of people these day. There are pundits who accompany the renters looking for the doshas (imbalances) in the house. Some do it free and others charge as much as Rs10k per visit. When I built the house the builder who was familiar with Vastu designed the layout. But we did some modifications because of which some vastu pandits are creating problems for us. Some even suggested to do structural changes like having even number of windows and doors, hiding the pillar to comply with Vastu .

I don't know if Vastu has any beneficial effect or not but it is making lot of people to spend in altering their houses to comply with vastu. When I was growing up 20 years back, people only looked for houses which are east or west facing. They did not worry too much about positioning of their beds, puja room and other rooms in the house. Also there were no Vastu guys pitching their science and scaring people about bad effects of houses which are not in compliance. First they talk about how it effects Lakshmi(money flow) and ill effects on health. They usually target the head of the household or the children.

Most Muslim builders in India i have met and checked their properties of are 100% vastu compliant.

They will whip out their smartphone compasses before you do.

This is India.
