KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 — An “I’m Muslim, I love Hindus” campaign by the Young Interfaith Peacemaker Community of Indonesia (YIPCI) is a veiled attempt at pushing for religious equality in Muslim-majority Malaysia, Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (ISMA) has alleged.

ISMA information chief Mohd Hazizi Ab Rahman took issue with a photograph of a YIPCI representative, who appears to be a Muslim female clad in a headscarf, holding up a placard that read “I’m a Muslim, I love Hindus” — saying that this could erode the faith of Muslims in the country.

The photograph, which appears to be have been taken during the Thaipusam celebration here on Monday, has since gone viral on social media.

“The conviction of Muslims — that Islam is the only true religion is being blamed as the reason behind racial discord and the cause of disharmony,” said Mohd Hazizi in a statement published yesterday on Ismaweb.net.

“The baseless accusations have been successful in convincing a group of Muslims to feel guilty and to be apologetic over something that does not exist and to get involved in campaigns that could destroy their faith,” he added, referring to the Indonesian group’s interfaith initiative.

Indonesia is home to the world’s largest Muslim population, with over 200 million of its people subscribing to Islam.

Mohd Hazizi said that such campaigns, which claimed to push for multi-religious harmony are largely backed by foreign funders to convince Muslims that other religions are equal to Islam.

He did not provide evidence to back up his allegations.

Mohd Hazizi said it was “strange” to launch such a campaign as Muslims have been the target of insults and persecution by non-Muslims in many countries worldwide.

“It is strange that there is the ‘love other religions campaign’ targeted at Muslims, when, in reality, Muslims are the victims of religious hatred in Palestine, Myanmar, France, Netherlands, in the African continent and other countries,” he said.

He also claimed the ongoing campaign in commemoration of the “World Interfaith Harmony Week” to convey ones’ love for non-Muslims “has serious implications on one’s faith” as it would cause Muslims here to question their religious beliefs.

“Muslims involved are advised to refer to experts on Islam, so that such action can be avoided in future,” said Mohd Hazizi.

ISMA’s assertions, made ahead of Indonesian leader Joko Widodo’s maiden visit here as president today, could add to the thorny issues testing bilateral ties with Malaysia.

.
Of course..Other religions aren't equal to Islam and we are mighty proud of that fact..:laughcry:

. .
will living in Non-Muslims country not destroy the faith of muslims according to these guys??

.
Oh please, if something as simple as this could destroy a Muslim's faith, then perhaps he had little faith to begin with; in which case, no big loss.

Religious tolerance is the only way for interfaith harmony.

Case is very simple when too much of dose of religion is drilled into the heads then such things are inevitable.... World is not monolithic in nature as a mullah perceive....

good for humanity of faith destroy

in modern world Indonesia can lead entire world for communal harmony........specially Javanese culture and tradition is best practice which i have experience in my life ,Hugh tolerance and focus on communal harmony
although in Indonesia ton of other school of though pretty exist ,but out of that Mohammadiyah and NU is biggest .........

in 1912 Mohammadiyah is establish just to stop penetration of salafi and Wahhabi moment in Indonesia, at that time India and rest of the world fail to understand how much it is really important ....90% of Indonesia either follow NU or Mohammadiyah, in last Christmas NU spare 2000 volunteer specially to guard all churches so that christian can celebrate their festival peacefully......NU also issue fatwa that greeting marry Christmas is not haram, and encourage youth to come forward and join christian for celebration

some time is been observed aggression towards christian and Ahmadia in Indonesian society.....but never against Hindu and Buddhist.........that is surprising for me, 300 people working under me, and some time i really feel awkward when i fail to explain them why Indian society is fail to establish communal harmony ...what really went wrong .........why Indian society is not that much mature the way it should be

Hindi serial like Mahabharata ,Ramayana, bal-Krishna , has highest TRP in Indonesia, our Indian artist who play character in Mahabharata is quite popular in Indonesia.....they doesn't have popularity in India...but from last six month they are in Indonesia and working in Indonesian channel in contract

but even all this doesn't make entire Indonesia special.............Javanese tradition make them really distinct and special

Javanese celebrate circumcision as man hood celebration not as religious identity ,Hindu Javanese also does circumcision .........Javanese is the community who accept openly that they doesn't follow Islam 100 % ,Islam is their base religion ,they also accommodate other religion , but that is not enough they are hard core nationalist too ,for them nation, traditional value is above all

i am lucky that got chance to interact and understand Javanese tradition and value ,it has changed me a lot , today i am totally different guy .........

at least dimag ki batti to jala gayee

He has a point. It will be detrimental for Islam if Muslims start loving Hindus en masse.
