IISc, IIT-Bombay in Top 30 as Indian Universities Move Up in Global Rankings

Yes every country has its set of hurdles. No one is free of the issues. But I am talking to the larger concept/ideal of it. A country should aspire to be a meritocratic democracy with equal rights and opportunity for all.

Communism has its own limitations that hamper merit in addition to what I pointed out at an even more basic level.

. . .
It's funny you brought up the Tang Dynasty. I was just looking at some Tang Era stuff earlier...buddhist manuscripts etc. The cultural and economic sphere of China really hit its zenith (compared to world average) then I would say.
Yes, Tang was really a fascinating period in the sense that it was an open, dynamic and multicultural society and really saw a lot of interaction with other main civilizations (the later dynasties tended to find the pathway to the west blocked by steppe nomad). Its strength was due to the openness, inclusiveness and meritocracy, which Modern China can still draw useful lessons from. It had seen talent people from different races promoted to high offices in both administrative and military institutions, which is rare in the later dynasties. The fact that Tang has expanded to the Central Asia lead to the flourish of Silk Road with safe passage of goods/traders and people exchange with other great civilizations like India and Middle East.

The most famous Tang traveler to India was undoubtedly Xuanzang, who spent about a decade in India, Nalanda more precisely, a far famed metropolis of Buddhist education. He was credited to be the first diplomat to establish relations between Tang Dynasty and Indian empire of Kannauj.

2 interesting things I read about his work were that 1. the total number of texts he brought from India to China is estimated 657 (I am curious who he carries this many books over the long trip back home without a car). 2. Apart from translating the Indian text he brought back, he apparently also translated the Dao De Jing (literally: virtue classics) of Laozi into Sanskrit and sent it to India in year 647 (not sure whether his contact received it).

Yep "journey to the west" is a real treat for me to read as well.

I will have to look up this Daoist stuff now that you mention it....you are right, sources say he translated and sent it to India.

Those Indian CEOs were educated at the best American univeristies not IITs. Sundar Pichai studied at Standford and Satya Nadella at the University of Chicago. 0% chance they'll get hired at Microsoft or Google with an IIT degree lol

Chinese institutes produced top CEOs that led many Chinese companies into the fortune 500 while Indian companies are barely featured in the fortune 500 lol.

Also, this ranking is based on emerging economies, so universities from USA, UK, Canada, Singapore, and Japan are not included.
This is the difference I was talking about, we are challenging the Americans, Indians work for them.

I have been thinking “journey to the west” shares some commonalities with LOTR. Both are 4 men band, travel to somewhere far away, facing obstacles along the way, the main character has low fighting capability but has high cause, which glues the party together. What do you think?

Yes for sure...similarities with the travel phase of the Ramayana as well (Ram, his brother, hanuman who some say sun wukong/goku is infuenced from and a troop of others on a quest with much obstacles).

You are right though, I didn't think about the fighting capability of LOTR quest (esp fellowship phase) at all...which makes the comparison with journey of the west even more so. Very well spotted.

No Big Deal. Infact I want IITians to be banned from working abroad for a period of 2years . These termites study on govt subsidies and leave straight away after graduation.
Just like doctors from govt Institutions are forced to work in rural areas for a couple of years IITians should work for Indian govt companies for atleast 2 years minimum .

Yes, it should be in the IIT admission process to begin with ...a contract to sign.
