What's new

IHS Janes | China, Pakistan set for submarine deal by end of year.

navy will pay for each agreement seperately. this seems to be a good arrangement instead of forking out funds for all 8 boats.

Is that even possible ?

Sounds good if indeed its possible but even 'separately' wouldn't we be forking out quite a bit of money ?

They must have friendly payment arrangement, you could pay it in a very long shcedule. As long as the economy turns better, i don't think its a big problem for you.

6 AIP Yuan Type 41 submarine
3 AIP Agosta 90B submarine
2 Agosta 70 submarine
1 Future Nuclear submarine

I think that 2 Agosta 70 subs will be retired before all the 6 Yuan class delivered to the PN.. they are bout in 1979-80s

Buy set of 3 +3 from two different countries 3 from china 3 from germany france or sweden u 214 is great but sweedish sub is also very very silent hard to detect

@Penguin @Horus what are pros & cons of having a Pumpjet system in an AIP SSK?
PRO

Greater maneuverability
Higher speed before the onset of cavitation
High power density of both propulsor and prime mover
Protection of the rotating element (safer operation around swimmers)
Improved shallow-water operations

and last but not least

Noise reduction, resulting in a low sonar signature

CON

Can be less efficient than a propeller at low speed
More expensive
The intakes can become clogged (see SAN navy frigate waterjet problems)

@Penguin what you think, will it be good for PN to have in their SSKs? and is it possible to use Pumpjet with conventional propeller configuration in modern day warfare? will it be effective against modern Navies?

One thing is that pumpjets have higher inertia than propellers so they do not respond as quickly as an unshrouded propeller to speed variations. For shallow water operations - home of the SSK - this has a certain importance. Besides, not all shrouded propellers and pumpjets are more efficient than propellers, and not in all ranges of speed. Since a diesel sub operates most of the times at low speed the advantages of a pumpjet are very limited in terms of quieting and could actually increase the Ampere-Hours (AH) consumption.
