‘If war breaks out … I will just become cannon fodder:’ In Taiwan, ex-conscripts feel unprepared for potential China conflict

Equally stupid to think that Taiwan 'belongs' to China.
You really have to show how stupid you are , do you? Do you even know Taiwan is a place name, not a country's name, do you actually know Taiwan's country name?

Would YOU go and fight in this 'right' war? We can be sure that overseas Chinese will find some ways to remain overseas.
Would you go fight for US in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Lybia...? China has 1.4 billion people, how many do you think can have a chance to fight in war?

.
History has shown you can't fight multiple fronts. With the Russians neutralized, the American focus is squarely on China. The Americans face no other strategic threat from any nation on earth. So while they are downsizing their presence and withdrawing, they are slowly deploying and adjusting their strategy to face your country. The question then becomes, what will you do? If you are paying attention to the Ukranian-Russian Conflict, it's obvious how the U.S. will play its game; death by a thousand cuts.

One thing to understand about American society from someone who practically grew up since the age of two in the U.S. This nation is a sponge; it absorbs all the talents and abilities, formulates the best course of action, and then it'll come and clean you out like Arm & Hammer.

I will guarantee one thing; the U.S. will arm Taiwan to the teeth and flood it with weapons to inflict the most severe punishment possible if you tried to invade the Island. So your one mistake will be to drag your threats too long and lose any advantage you could have. Your second mistake was not helping Russia and coming to its aid to apply the bandage, stop the bleeding, and allow it to take over Ukraine and create an active and hot zone in Europe. Your third mistake is not taking the initiative in Africa and arming them to take on the Western-backed forces to inflict pain on them.

** Most importantly, by helping Russia, you could've battle tested your weapons and learned how they perform and what improvements are needed. The Americans are learning, learning, and learning. **

Growth and power don't just come from economic growth; you need to fight to lay the tracks.

While nationalism is good, as the other poster said, you shouldn't be blinded by it.

@LeGenD
You put it together in an impressive manner. You have American talents in you. Maybe you are right.

But I think that China should not follow in the footsteps of US. China made the right call to NOT be involved in the ongoing Ukraine - Russia War.

Vladimir Putin was a promising leader to Russians. He can be credited for Russian victory in Chechnya and strategic footprint in Syria. He made incredible inroads into Europe with Nord Stream projects. He got away with stealing lands from Georgia. He even had Donald Trump simping for him not long ago. It looked like Russia was becoming a superpower in its own right. Nobody could do anything about Russia until it chose to invade Ukraine.

Gross miscalculation.

US capitalized on this Russian miscalculation to convince Europe to decouple from Russia, motivate OECD to impose heavy sanctions on Russia, and to confront Russia in Ukraine. Russian military has suffered tremendous losses in Ukraine on the one hand and its economy have taken a significant hit on the other hand. Russian prestige have also taken a hit by extension.

If China had joined Russia in Ukraine, this could lead to World War.

China has shown restraint and have chosen to respect sovereignty of Ukraine in these very tempting times. Chinese leader Xi has shown to the world that he is a man of principles and not another tyrant. China should be marketing itself on these lines.

China has a very constructive relationship with Germany and has tremendously benefitted from it. China would have jeopardized this relationship by joining Russia in Ukraine.

China is making the right calls in my view. China also has created a detterrence bubble of its own by improving its war-machine.

Nobody can do anything about China until it miscalculates its options and provides a window of opportunity to its enemies to weaken it.

There is much power in the detterrence bubble until it is deflated.

I am all for peaceful resolution of China - Taiwan conflict.

Let's see.

Everyone is for peaceful solution on both sides of the Taiwan strait, only US is hell bent to stir up some trouble there, sending high ranking officials to visit Taiwan, selling Taiwn advanced weapons, repeatedly sending warships to the Taiwan strait to provoke China, those were unheard of in the past 40 years, everyone knows what US is trying to do. make Chinese fight Chinese, we are not that stupid as US thinks though.

Putin did a lot of good things for Russia, but he he also got away with a lot. The Kursk for example. Allowing corruption while curbing part of it. Supporting countries with poor record of human rights, taking out political opponents etc.

I disagree with the Georgia thing, the South Ossetians and the Abkhazians wanted to be with Russia since Georgia declared its independence. And the Georgians took the bait when they attacked South Ossetia.

Anyway,Putin was a good leader, but in the end he failed to make Russia as technologically and industrially advanced as the West. The people's living standard, although raised significantly from the early 2000s era, didn't reach European levels for the majority of the people. The corrupt oligarchs remained,a lot of old bad habits remained, the huge natural resources of the country were not effectively taken advantage of...and the invasion of Ukraine showed that blunder after blunder, politically and militarily, the Russian administration had massive faults.

When you fly aircraft and drones near and over them though, you're the ones proviking and making Taiwan want to buy advanced weapons.

I don't think Putin made the wrong decision and history will prove him right. Just wait time will prove Putin right..

Right now the Russians want East Ukraine but I believe during late this year and early next year it will appear that the Russians have gained upper hand enough to annex the entirety of Ukraine.

It doesn't matter how much weapons the West bumps into Ukraine they want to prevent the unpreventable which is a Russian victory by putting Ukraine on life support extending it's life but eventually the Ukrainians will lose the will to fight and right now the momentum is changing towards Russia.

As per Prophecy the Russians will rise from this war and not the other way around.. Russia will take Ukraine, Finland, Sweden, Hungary (Orban will willingly switch sides) Bulgaria, Greece Will also leave NATO and join Russian bloc. Macedonia will also flip and Join Russia..

Poland, Romania, the Baltic will be the only resistance against them..

The Orthodox prophecies talk about other events. And we don't know when exactly they will happen.

They also do it near the mainland, it's been going on like this for 70 years, it's an unfinished civil war, what do you expect a civil war look like? what does Chinese civil war have anything to do with you Israel or any foreign countries?

What did China have to do with Korean and Vietnamese civil wars? :)

. . . . . .
Socialists support socialists, what's the surprise? US always supports KMT and Taiwan, as long as no military intervention, it's within normal practice in global geopolitics.
Ah so now Socialists support Socialists, but earlier it was "why other countries meddle in China civil war?"

A nation whose people aren't willing to pay the price of freedom can never win a war nor can it rebuild itself
