What's new

If South Asian countries were in Europe

Dude we took in Indian Muslims during partition from all over - you know we have Muslims from Kerala even?
Than Bangladeshis who number more than a million, than Afghans, tajiks, Iranians after revolution, Africans in our cities and you rarely hear anti-refugee statements (yes now with Afghans Thier are issues but at political level it still doesn't register as they were offered citizenship)
So from that pov I feel India to be more anti-migration
Yes Pakistan also hosts a lot of immigrants, but all major sub-continent countries do. Bangladesh hosts Rohingyas. Depends on the timelines one is looking at. India is not anti-immigrant if one looks at the longer history.

@Sainthood 101
extending this a bit, I am putting Central Asians in the same category as Vikings who raided kingdoms to their south. And if India is France, Mughals were Normans?
Eventhough Afghanistan is in saarc but I don't consider it a South Asian country so I'll put them as something else
I consider them a Centeral Asian republic like Uzbekistan etc
Pakistan is the only south Asian stan country

I grew up in the NYC/LI area.
NY,Queens (didn't grew up there but lived there for a time period nowadays live upstate in a suburb)

I never met and talked with Bangladesh people in real contact ever (I guess only in Madinah/Mecca but never have substantial talk )

I have met with Indian expat and had conversation with him. I see him polite and very neat. This Indian with good education in USA (American citizen)

I have met with Pakistani businessman and talked quite long with him. He is polite, kind, and quite proud with the fact his country has nuclear weapon.

That is the observation from me based on my real contact experience.

I would say bengalis are more like italian, they like fashion, clothing, food and beauty. Bengalis live to eat and they worship beauty(although beauty is defined as fair skin but it is an important consideration in everything). They have very high expectation (monetarily speaking) from themselves and others, like to consume expensive goods and show off. This is made worse by tiktok/fb/instagram and the fact that everybody has somebody overseas. They are also highly entrepreneurial(guess otherwise they cant match consumption with the income)

The reason why they are not french, is because they are friendly and welcoming(not standoffish)

As an outsider, I don't know.

I will say however that Romania was once home to the most powerful being on Earth.

A being who might to this very day, still walk this Earth.
And now they are home to the Roma, the most oppressed group in Europe.

If people feel country is too broad than I think historical regions of India, pakistan can also be interesting

I don think India(or Pakistan, for that matter) can be compared with a single European country.
India, in particular, is extremely diverse in climate, culture and people.
From hot deserts to extremely cold snow capped moutains and meadows, from humid tropical rain forests to dry arid regions.or sea shores, You name it we have it.
While Kerala may never have a proper winter, Sikkim hardly sees a hot summer.
Meghalaya gets highest rainfall on the world while it's quite opposite in regions of Rajasthan.
Diversity of Flora and fauna is as prominent as the diverse groups of people that live here.
Language, culture , customs change every few hundred kilometers.
People of different ethnicity cultures, religion have been living here for centuries.
Socioeconomically too the country is as diverse as everything else.
From the poorest of the poor right to the richest of the rich. You can find it all, here, in India, my homeland.
So yeah, absolutely no comparison with a single country like France.
We are more of an amalgamation of countries bound together by common geography, a millenia old tradition/religion and most importantly a thrive to rise above our current stature towards a better future for our next generation.

Bengal region I feel should be like Greece. Coastal area with people who like to eat fish. Once was a great knowledge hub and political powerhouse, also the people were viewed as such but now doesn't exert half the influence it once did and holding on to that thread of pride that once connected it to that greatness while being knee deep in issues.

Majority are Bengali Hindus yes, though there is a significant tribal population.
Most came just after the partition or during the 60s when they were facing oppression.
Lol to think about it now, in a different timeline they would have been Pakistanis now or Bangladeshis, but they were only truely accepted as Indians.
