With no Plans to Procure Additional Sukhoi’s, focus shifts to upgrades for IAF

With order backlog for Sukhoi30s currently produced by HAL in India down to less than 3 Squadrons, IAF has been ensured by HAL that it will deliver entire Sukhoi30MKI fleet by 2019.

IAF will induct 272 Su30MKI fighters it has ordered and after which focus will shift to upgradation.

HAL and IAF had initial rounds of talks on the procurement of additional Jets to replace aircrafts lost in accidents before Production line close down to make way for 5th generation FGFA.

Sources close to idrw.org have confirmed us that IAF has not sought procurement of additional Sukhoi’s in the meet but will take a call on attrition replacement aircrafts.

Bringing focus back to upgrade Su30s now considered the backbone of IAF fighter fleet. India and Russia have started discussing to upgrade aircraft with added characteristics of fifthgeneration aircraft to convert it into a “Super Sukhoi”. India plans to start upgrading Sukhoi in Phase wise to Super Sukhoi Standard by 2020 and in the first phase first 80 aircrafts delivered to Indian air force will be selected for such upgrades.

Super Sukhoi Standard will introduce Modern Aesa radar and latest technology in the modern Avionics in the cockpit for pilots. upgraded Super Sukhoi would also lead changes to several structural elements which will bring in advanced stealth characteristics in the aircraft.

Aircraft will come with new weapons systems developed for FGFA and other Indigenous Weapons systems been developed in India. Plans are to bring Sukhoi’s close to FGFA in terms of Capabilities. India and Russia have still not finalised technical aspect of the upgrades planned yet, but talks are in the advanced stage with Irkut Corporation and other Russian authorities. W

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – India has expressed interest in carrying out a joint project to extensively modernize its SU-30MKI aircraft in collaboration with Russian companies, the Russian state technology corporation Rostec said in a statement Friday.

"In the long term, as recommended by the Russian Ministry of Defense, we plan a major upgrade of the SU-30SM [model] to increase its combat effectiveness. The Indian government has expressed interest in collaborating to modernize the SU-30MKI, which is an evolution of the SU-30SM," the statement reads.

According to the statement, both aircraft models will be given upgraded avionics and radars, as well as an improved engine. The SU-30SM and the SU-30MKI will also be equipped with additional weapons.

The SU-30 MKI, NATO reporting name Flanker-H, is the Indian Air Force’s elite fighter-bomber. It was developed by Russia's Sukhoi Aviation Corporation and built under license by India's Hindustan Aeronautics.

Russia and India have been close partners in military and technical cooperation for decades. In 2014, the total value of weapons and military hardware delivered by Russia to India reached $4.7 billion, according to Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation estimates.

Thanks for the share. So its clear we wont go for S35 .And russians are wantedly pushing us to buy them or they might sell it Pakistan ,... So i wonder India will have to compensate to calm their nerves . PAKFA is on card and upcoming PM visit to moscow will be very interesting ! T90 MS , rockets and ammunition production line , SSN lease agreement ,Some understanding on SUper upgrade/ FGFA and most probably 80 PakFa .

.
Can anyone tell me why is the anterior part of the canard of Su MKI always left unpainted ?

Does the paint interfere with the radar or some other thing ?

.
Man this will be the best upgradation programme once done till 2020.
Waiting for it to be completed.
All will be upgraded before 2020 or at least 1st batch of 80 ?

Can anyone tell me why is the anterior part of the canard of Su MKI always left unpainted ?

Does the paint interfere with the radar or some other thing ?
Same doubt . It's nowadays common with all new russian Su30SM and new Indian MKI

Sure . We should . But we cant get FGFA which might fly by 2017 and induction by 2022 . For now its russian variant PAKFA . Off the shelves ,First batch will arrive in the next 36 months of contract signing . Russians heavily reduced their orders may be planning to sell them to us , :)

.
Makes sense, first get the full 272 fighters and later upgrade them to super Sukhoi and focus on LCA MK2
