Georgia is already very pro-NATO, Azerbaijan and Turkey already have deep ties, Turkey and Russia are also BFFs now, just look at how they are managing to work jointly in Syria despite opposite interests.

There were talks of Georgian NATO accession in late 2000's and we know what this lead to... Russia invading Northern Ossetia and bringing Georgia to its knees.

Russia already had a military base in Abkhazia, it was purely poor planning on Georgian part, even if Georgia didn't have close relations with NATO, Russia wouldn't just let them retake territory around their base and just sit by watching.

Makes sense. Georgian's got greedy thinking they have NATO behind their back, trying to capture lands from Russia in around its northern regions.

NATO gave them confidence to move into these territories but ended up facing Russian's head on.. End of the day NATO failed to deliver what it promised to Georgians
