Aselsan ready to unvail the new Tiger
Aselsan, Turkeys leading defense electronics manufacturer by market capitalization, is preparing to show off the improved version of its Kaplan (Tiger) unmanned demolitions vehicle in the IDEF 2013 international defense fair.
The improved Kaplan features a longer operational range, electro-optics and robotic durability, as well as a new generation soil penetrating 3D radar that can detect explosives hidden several feet underground or inside thick boxes and packages. Kaplan also comes equipped with an extremely ergonomic, sensitive robotic arm with seven actuators for optimum operational capability and HD cameras that can provide its remote operators a live video feed from up to 500 meters.
Already operation with the Turkish police national police force counter-terrorism and demolitions units, Kaplans water-tight hull and tracks allow it to pass through puddles of water while powerful motors allow it to easily drive over steep terrain.
Several countries possess the technology to build demolitions bots of this scale. But Kaplan is currently the cutting-edge thanks to its integrated 3D radar that makes identification of bombs a breeze. said an Aselsan spokesman interviewed by TR Defence.
Aselsan hopes to sign at least one export deal of the new, improved Kaplans in IDEF 2013.
