In defense of a country nothing is junk, it's about technology as well as numbers. A fighter plane is a fighter plane, though it can be of older technology, it is certainly better than a zero.

But cant see it happening until the INDIAN GDP passes UK FRANCE & GERMANY around 2025

I suspect the following will transpire

SU30MKI = 272 PLANES by 2018 in =15 sqds
MIG29 SMT = 63 PLANES until 2030 in = 3 sdq
mirage2000-5 50 planes until 2030 = 3 sqds
LCA MK1 = 40 planes by 2016 = 2 sqds
LCA MK2 = 83 PLANES = 2024 = 5 Sqds
RAFALE = 126 PLANES BY 2024 = 7 SQDS
jAGUAR upg 72 = 2025 = 4 sqds

THIS IS 39 SQDS by 2025

PS IAF may have replaced the JAGS by pak fa by then say 50 FGFA by 2025

Agree!! We need at-least +1000 Fighter jets to be able to defend in case of two front war! I dont know why our military planner's think-tanks are so slow!

And yeah while keeping in mind the current situation i highly doubt that we will be able to even meet this 42 squadrons target on time.

We need artillery as much as aircraft,in mountanous regions artillery is deadly.Sometimes even more than aircraft.Yet it remains our achilles heel.Also more prahar and brahmos batteries.Our MBRL count is very healthy though.

Yeah well I read it in some article that the IAF needs about 70 squadrans of fighters for having fighting a two front war And that it needs about 105 squadrans for Making Indian ocean India's ocean. So I think this 42 squadrans is not enough though i would personally like it even if 42 squadrans are materialised, given the speed of procurement of the arms by the govt.

you have to add atleast 50 PAKfa fighters to the list that will make up for the 3 more sq required..
plus if PAKfa for some reason doesnt materialize by then the IAF has clealry announced that they wish to oparate some variants of mig 21 till 2020 and mig 27 till 2025..so they will make up for it..so by 2020 they will get that mark once MRCA are inducted

IAF must continue to use Mig-21 and Mig-27 till 2025 and upgrading Mirage-2000 and Jaguar is just a waste of time and money Mirages are grounded for 50 days after several crashes.

There is no way the 21s can go on till 2020, the IAF plans to retire every single one of them by 2017 (and all non bison ones by 2015). If there are delays in FGFA, that will be made up by an additional 63 Rafales, which wasn't included in the list you replied to. That additional 63 is a definite possibility, and there are even clauses for that in the contract that is about to be signed. Flying the 21s till 2020 would be criminal IMO.

When did the IAF "clearly announce" that they wish to operate the 21s till 2020, any links for that? I'm sure you are mistaken about that. The 27s too are planned to be retired one squadron at a time when the Rafales arrive, maybe the last ones might last till 2025, but definitely not all of them.
