IAF targets 42 fighter aircraft squadrons (840 fighter aircraft)

Post edited..:D

We don't have capacity to built 25 mkis/year, mostly it depends on HAL..
As per current numbers we r operating ~145, that means w'll have to produce ~125 in five years..
Somewhere i have heard that we r currently producing 14-15/year, building extra 10 will need some extra investment and manpower..
So all in all, 272 mki will be reality may be by 2019-20, yes with upgradation at super30 standard..

According to the HAl chairman's interview in "Force India" defense magazine HAl will produce 28 SU 30 MKIs from this year.

The fleet is too diverse.

The IAF should focus on 3 4th gen planes:

SU 30 MKI

Rafale

LCA

The Mirage, Mig series (27, 29), Jaguar and Mig 21 should be replaced ASAP (instead of spending money on them buy more Rafales and Sukhois off the shelf).

Of course the IAF and MOD will continue to keep their ridiculously diverse fleet and then complain about logistics...

Mirage and mig-29 are fine , but mig-21 and 27 should be replaced asap...

With the kind of Babu's we have in our defence and finance department....this will remain a dream atleast till 2022.....unless utill they don't include 200 flying coffins in these 840 aircrafts.....

My Projection for 2017

268 Su30 Mki
63 Mig 29 Smt
49 Miraage 2000
40 LCA Mk1
100 Jaguar
36 Rafale [or maybe 54...]
-----
556 Aircrafts...

Rest is junk....So i don't their is any need to include them...

where is Mig 27..

we have more than 100 of them

also add our T50

Mirage and mig-29 are fine , but mig-21 and 27 should be replaced asap...

Mig 21 will be Replaced by LCA Tejas
and Mig 27 replaced by the induction of AMCA in 2025
so Mig 27 have more than 15 years more age

On the face of it, that is a good plan that you suggest, but it has to be tempered by realities.
1. there has to be a certain period of overlap of inductions and de-inductions.
2. induction is not only a plane flying with its base support organisation in place.
3. induction is effective only when #2 is complete AND the aircrews have achieved operational familiarity AS WELL AS set up SOPs to cover tactical use. AND the concerned a/c are available in reasonably sizable numbers.
4. hence there will be some time (the overlap period) when we will see this diverse and some-what unwieldy fleet operating.
5. apart from the three aircraft that you mention (and the PAF-FA), the UPG Mig-29s, Mirage 2Ks and last (and least) the Jaguars may operate as 2nd line (reserves) a/c till #3 is taken care of.

I don't think the Mig 27 can hold ot for another 10 years forget 15.

It will he phase wise removal. after inclusion of each squad of Rafael , one squad of MiG27 will be removed. Don't be in impression tht all will retired in one day.

Around the end of 2017.

269 su-30mki - 15 squadrons.

Current strength is 154.
42 are coming straight from russia.
That leaves about 75 in 5 years.Current rate is around 14-16/yr.So will be completed.

3 squadrons of mig-29 upgraded.
Around 68 aircraft.

3 Squadrons of mirage-2000 upgraded.
48 aircraft.

3 squadrons of rafale
Around 50.

2 squadrons lca mk-1.
40 aircraft.

5 squadrons-Jaguars
90 aircraft.

Now remaining 11 squadrons will be surviving mig-21s,lca-mk2s inducted and surviving mig-27s.

thats a decent viable calculation. somewhere i read that sarkozi said that if rafale was to be selected first 40 will be delivered in fast track basis..

We may get 20-30 lca mk2, because it's first flight is planned by 2014 so within two year HAL can build 20-30 with the weapon trials,FOC,IOC and other stuffs..
You forget Mig-27, they will be in service by 2020. I hope so..

I also agree that we need at least 900+fighters. i think this is planed for 2020. but we are not able to achieve the target
