Defending Leh airport would need at least 4 battalions of S-400 SAM against 2 battalions of PHL-03 with with 144 long range rockets, firing all within 5 minutes.

Limited stock of imported S-400 missiles against unlimited supply of Chinese domestic production rockets means Indians SAM defence will run out of missiles while the Chinese could continue to bombard the airport for hours until kingdom come.

Leh airport is located at less than 90 km from the nearest LAC and is within range of Chinese rockets, rocket assisted 155mm artillery shells, air to ground missiles and air launched stand off glide bombs. Leh airport is simply too close to LAC and is extremely vulnerable.

The longest range Chinese rocket is the 400mm WS3 with range of 480km.

PHL-03 300mm guided rockets is said to have a range of 160 km.

Air bases are absolutely huge you can't take out air bases using rockets permanently.

Those rocket launchers are battlefield support artillery.

India has war gamed Chinese ballistic missile strikes and have concluded that it would take 200 ballistic missiles to take out a full air base which stretches for miles.

Even.then the run ways would be 're paired with temporary surfaces in one or two days .It's in impossible to take out air base permanently.

Remember these are guided rocket and not simple artilery so they will be fired upon on control tower radar sties communication towers runway aircraft out of hangars and aircraft hangars.

Even if they take out just ono of the above mentioned equipment then it will be with a fraction of cost and will seriously effect IAF abilities.

I undeestand there r other bases as well but this thread is about LEH airbase which is in striking range of PLA inexpensive rocket force ... remember in start of any major conflict these front line air bases are the first to face on both sides. Probably durinh the first few hours of the start of conflict
