What's new

IAF has lost 999 planes in crashes since 1970

Increased number of crashes does not automatically mean diminishment of capabilities. North Korea has nearly 0 crashes since 1990, but that's because they don't fly much due to fuel and funding shortage. China on the other hand, saw its number of crashes went up in recent years, as pilots' average flight hour went from 90 to about 200 per year within a decade. Not saying crashes are good, but one has to look beyond the numbers for the true reason.

really big thread
Indian air force under many pressure
paf-plaaf thread ,old russian jets incidents at daily basis, delay in tejas
and many more

it is a very difficult bird to handle indeed, for years we trained pilots without an AJT and sent them from the subsonic Kiran to the mach 2 capable MiG-21's old age plus lack of good training a poisonous combination indeed for any young pilot i can only feel sorry for the families who lost they're men in accidents because of poor planning poor maintenance and poor training by the IAF

even today we don't have a decent basic trainer and lack a good quantity of advanced jet trainers for a country who has one of the worlds largest defense budgets i find this shocking but the blame is on red tape in gov't and poor planning ,maintenance, and training by AF

Imagine.. being a nugget who is used to flying in the 200knot bracket.. suddenly being thrust to a 500knot one.

even Pakistan is flying 60's era Mirages but the amount of accidents r nill as comaperd to IAF.

Diffrence is Pakistani training and Maintinence is far good then Indians.

Mirages don't crash often. It's the older generation of MiG's that are an issue.

I don't get pilot error bit, if pilot error was crashing so many of them you would see atleast similar if not equal number of crashes on other IAF fighter platforms too no ?

Or maye the IAF pilots have decided to take out the phasing out of these jets in their hands or rather "seats" lol

that's correct. issue is old migs.

a member of pdf (indian) had said that old planes can carry out only 2 sorties per day but IAF tries to carry out 4 sorties by those fighters.

dont forget that IAF pilots (at least SU 30 MKI pilots) fly planes for 350 hours a year.

The pilots flying the MiGs are generally inexperienced having graduated from a subsonic trainer. Like Santro said earlier, imagine graduating from a 200knot clocking jet to one clocking 500 knots. Reaction time is significantly small and the MiG is notoriously difficult to master. The combination is what leads to pilot error.

we used to have MiG-21 conversion trainers that trained pilots on it and got them ready for the challenging MiG-21 but they have long since been gone

that is why we should have 4 or 5 stage training process

ab initio (baby step pilot training)

basic training

intermediate

advanced

and lead in fighter training with a trainer that is capable of supersonic speeds like the T-50 gold eagle that gives pilots experience with supersonic birds

Promotion Alert!!!!

Now its 1000 aircraft crashes since 1970 after today's jaguar crash

.
And the Ministry of defence still sleeps... open these figures wakes them up... Old fighters are worth scrap value...

Su-30Mki's and Mirages are less crashyyyyy....

.
IAF is the biggest peacetime looser of warplanes, an extremely dubious title to own given the fact that top 3 biggest air forces have much better numbers to show.

.
The jets we make in India under TOT getting off from the skies...Those babus eat alot and bought inferior stuff....

.
reached-1000 hell yeah its time to dig the grave of mig-21 and mig-27
