There has been so much discussion about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Geopolitical, Geostrategic, Geo-economics and so on, but as usual, the average citizen gets pushed into the background in all the furore about who’s right and who’s wrong.

The great powers play games far larger then we care to understand, we think one thing and a decade later new truths come forward, so time will decide the counterfactuals of each and every argument

If Putin had invaded just the Donbas region, I wouldn’t have batted an eyelid, they are all Russian, so non of my business, so it doesn’t concern me. But to launch a full invasion of Ukraine is rather extreme, a step that will result in massive sufferings of the people that could and should have been avoided.

SO, politics aside, let's please spend a moment to think about the average citizen, the families that will suffer.
Already there has been racist reporting by white/western reporters, but we shouldn't allow that to colour our judgements, and remember that we are all human.

SO, I stand with the people of Ukraine, and I do hope everyone wishes that they won't suffer too much, and recover from this situation very soon.

Nobody wants people to suffer. Nobody wants two brother nations killing each other. Except for their enemies of course.

But the Westerners wanted to take Ukraine in NATO as well. Even if they deny it now. Zelensky wanted to join NATO and EU too. Imagine an animal cornered. What would you do if let's say France,Belgium,Netherlands and Norway were Warsaw Pact members and Ireland wanted to join as well?

Ukraine should have been neutral to both sides. Or at least not take down the Yanukovich government.

For all those cheering Russia on right now, I have a question for you, would you cheer India if they invade Pakistan?
Because it's the same situation really, same we r sem to sem logic used by russia is used by india. But the people of both Ukraine and Pakistan want nothing to do with Russia and India respectively, and that's the only thing that matters. If the Ukrainians want to be separate, they have the right to be just like we do.

It's not the same situation at all.

I will be brutally honest. I don't feel much emotion when I think about this conflict. Not as yet. While even one death is too many, for me the benchmark of destruction is Iraq / Syria. That is the kind of destruction that makes me feel sad. While I have never been to these 2 countries myself, I have met refugees in Turkey, Austria and Germany, many of them turned to beggars or salesman from whom no one buys anything. Their morale is crushed. I have seen many videos of post war life in these countries, and the struggles of people is heartbreaking.

I see poverty in India, often crushing poverty. People unable to come out of debt trap, living hand to mouth existence for almost their entire life. Poverty that robs of them of their dignity. People suffer in various ways, war is just one of them. At the end of it, there is injustice in some form or the other. Either a dictator mentally stuck in cold war era, or a democratically elected government that thinks it exists only for itself.

Ukrainians and Russians are the same people, same race, same religion. indians and Pakistanis are NOT.

Why do you think so? For my understanding :

Pakistan : Russia
Kashmir : Donbas and Luhansk separatists
India : Ukraine
Modi : Zelensky

Ukrainians and Russians are the same people, same race, same religion.
If this is Russia's legitimate ground, I could use exactly this argument to create a legitimate reason for invasion for about 10 countries. If someone opens this door, every powerhouse in the world will follow the same path.

Btw, Accusing the Ukrainian administration of being fascist and unintentionally trying to justify Russia with racial arguments may not be the right method. Also, religious unity is a controversial issue. There are also Catholics. The majority share orthodoxy, but even that in itself may be an erroneous generalization. For Ukrainian orthodoxy gained political ground with the creation of the Kyiv Patriarchate.
