This is very alarming, the myth of ease to misguide poor uneducated youths gets busted right in the face. Apparently, the educated fools aren't that far behind being vulnerable to propaganda.
glad that you didnt just issue the Knee Jurk (Hindu) Fatwa on them
IF you lookup the "credentials" of some mid to top tier lieutenants of TTP and Al Qaeda then you will see that they belonged to affluent and influential families, had comfortable life and "good" (modern / expensive) education and were not "wronged" or antagonized directly by anyone
(case in point the Bin ladin family)
in Pakistan , ipad wielding luxury SUV / 4x4 driving middle class youth suddenly grew beards and became the self appointed mouthpieces of AQ and its regional affiliates and some of them when a "notch" further by actively supporting and participating in terror attacks and belonged to cross section of society (professors, scientists, teachers, bankers, brokers etc).
the stereotype (about poor) is not off the mark though.
the front line foot soldiers are normally sourced from deprived, illiterate and poor community who see corruption, nepotism & injustice at the hands of those that have power and hence AQ like any other militant entity feeds on that anger and frustration and recruits them to seek revenge.
what I see is wanna bees and copycats that went one step too far. its ok to have bigoted and genocidal thought as long as they stay in the mind of that individual and he know that he can NEVER put them into practice because there wont be any glory and he will be stopped immediately.
to prevent such things from happening. the community leaders both Muslims and non Muslims should educate the youngsters as they are very impressionable .

this is something we discussed earlier some time ago
where a state needs to use an incident to its advantage as a message and educate its public wht not to do and why something is wrong.
in Pakistan Musharraf's government missed that chance on Red Mosque siege... despite the naked aggression of heavily armed and masked terrorists in the mosque and despite the shameful failed attempt of the instigator..
the terrorists used that operation as a rallying cry and a recruiting tool.
although the state could have shown people why a place of worship and terrorism were incompatible, why whatever the Red mosque people were doing wrong and why they had to be stopped.
A mature response, but don't be too liberal.Keep them under surviellence lest they try to create trouble here.
ignore the liberals.
take any such wanna bees to one corner and show them them the videos on how state deals with such trouble makers. I am sure many of them will loose the appetite for terrorism.
