Hundreds of Muslim workers fired after dispute over prayers

i think giving break for 20 minutes is not such a big issue . Company can make schedule for the prayers time.

double standards

This is a settled issue in US employment law. Hourly workers get 2 breaks and lunch during the day. The breaks are 15min, the lunch is 30min (minimum). Employers can stagger breaks to keep production running.

If you need more than that, you need to start your own business. Moving to a country and expecting all the laws to change to match your desires/culture is ridiculous. Expecting the US to change to match your Pakistani (or Somali) standards is a double standard - you are not willing (I would guess) to change Pakistan to match US standards, are you?

What are the break times?

Don't come to US then..

Why are you giving the wrong picture of USA? My brother works for federal and he is given the time to offer prayers.
The problem is, some people just want a reason to discriminate Muslims. Otherwise, 1st constitution gives the 'freedom of religion'.

Well when 200 of them want sometimes to offer prayer, then the management should think of it and give sometimes. Employees have some rights. Nothing wrong to go with majority rule.

.
200 Muslims and they could not manage their prayer arrangements and timings, and an employer had them employed to run his production line? .................... sad to read that. It is easy if you really want to spare time for prayers during working hours be efficient, complete your tasks well before deadline. And in a production line these 200 could have taken turns as a group of 2 to 3 to pray together while rest of the group could have shared their duties and work load . Anyways more details would have helped to understand the issue better and what exactly was their demand.

And for Muslims on this thread who think Prayers can be neglected as a routine affair they need to re read Surah AL-MAUN again and again and again especially verse number 4 of that Surah.

Nobody cares about a shithole like india

How would they know if a person is Muslim or nah?

In U.S, it is illegal to ask for the religion of the potential employee
the same way 'black' sounding names are already discriminated(a typical black name on resume gets way less calls than typical white name in USA), its much easier to filterout muslims compared to blacks.. companies also check facebook and linkedin now a days, which will make it even easier.
Such discrimination cannot be easily proved, and companies can always fill a few token muslims(just like some do for black people to show they are equal opportunity employer)

Go and read what the guy posted. Notwithstanding the fact that he is waving US flag, he is also ranting about systemic discrimination. I asked him to gtfo first !

Muslims should file a discrimination case...They are victims of this cruel world everywhere.

Saudi Arabia need to raise voice against this.
On top of that sense of victimhood & entire world conspiring against them are drilled into the heads of green followers ....

On topic
If I had been the owner I would have allowed them to pray five time until some nut becoming a potential threat......

What is the rule in muslim countries, do they allow all muslims prayer breaks? what about in companies/departments that requires equipments to be manned 24/7?

Isn't feeding their families more important? o_O

Anyway it is actually necessary to pray 5 times a day? I have known some Muslims and they definitely did not pray 5 times a day.

Salat is the obligatory Muslim prayers, performed five times each day by Muslims. It is the second Pillar of Islam. God ordered Muslims to pray at five set times of day.

Employees do have rights. But not where shutting down a business is concerned and losing money is a losing proposition for the employers.

its business and halting production five times a day

5 times are not in office hours...

does the quran talk about five-prayers-day and does it describe the manner of prayer??

as far as i know, no on both things. :)

i believe the five prayers comes from zoroastrian religion which indirectly influenced some of the hadith writers, especially the persian, bukhari... and it is from the hadith books ( don't know which one and don't care ) that five prayers originates.

we must accept something from the hadith works ( and there are many ) only if it agrees with common sense and reject it otherwise.

besides, you did not respond to my point of the ibm-bangalore muslims and muslimahs not benefiting from establishing or talking of establishing a prayer culture in their offices.

and what can you tell me about the demolition of buildings in the nepal earthquake of 2015?? :)

yes, that they could.

dedicated to you Sir,

"Verily, the hypocrites seek to deceive Allah, but it is He who deceives them; When they stand up for Salah, they stand with laziness, only to be seen by men; and they do not remember Allah but a little." (Surah Nisaa 4:142)
