Hundreds of Iranian Students Demand to Change Course of Study to Nuclear Technology

TEHRAN (FNA)- Hundreds of Iranian students studying at Sharif University of Technology demanded the authorities of the university to allow them change their course of study to nuclear-related studies after the deputy director at Natanz enrichment facility was assassinated in a terrorist bomb blast last week.

Over 300 students of Sharif University of Technology in a symbolic move asked for redirecting their course of study to nuclear technology and related fields to prove that assassination of Iranian scientists like Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan will not dispirit and intimidate them from making activities and cooperating with the authorities in promoting Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

"Also over 900 university students and graduates have demanded voluntary cooperation with the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI)," member of Sharif University of Technology's Central Council for Graduate Students Mehrdad Bazrpash said on Sunday.

In the fifth attack of its kind in two years, a magnetic bomb was attached to the car of 32-year-old Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan during the Wednesday morning rush-hour in the capital, Tehran. His driver was also killed in the terrorist attack.

Ahmadi Roshan, 32, was a graduate of oil industry university and a deputy director of Natanz uranium enrichment facility for commercial affairs.

The Wednesday blast took place on the second anniversary of the martyrdom of Iranian university professor and nuclear scientist, Massoud Ali Mohammadi, who was also assassinated in a terrorist bomb attack in Tehran in January 2010.

The assassination method used in the Wednesday bombing was similar to the 2010 terrorist bomb attacks against the then university professor, Fereidoun Abbassi Davani - who is now the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization - and his colleague Majid Shahriari. Abbasi Davani survived the attack, while Shahriari was martyred.

Another Iranian scientist, Dariush Rezaeinejad, was also assassinated through the same method on 23 July 2011.

Such a young man lost his life... Clearly his brilliance was very important for Iran. The students are making a powerful statement with their simple gesture. One more reason to wonder at the resilience of a people. Iran should work more on PR in the USA and Europe. The young scientists death and these students' news could have been a little short of watershed. Unfortunately fierce ideologues are often lacking in the practical. In this respect, Iranian government is also lacking.
The most important thing for Iranians to do now is to show that they are united. There is war coming and people cannot afford to be seen as wanting a regime change. Any excuse you give to the warmongers can be precursor to a war. It could be a photo in the Western press showing some 'protest against the regime'. It could be a populist statement by a leader(fortunately Ahmedinejad and his crew cut down on this front a lot). In any case, if they decide to attack(which if they did, will mean they are in preparation now), Iran has to be prepared.

If Iran could somehow highlight this recent killing and the unity of their people, like the support from students, in the Western press, it will make a huge difference. After all in this century the trend seems to be that 'wars start on the media'. Obviously Iranian government cannot do anything with the sanctions hammering it down. The effort has to come from Iranian Americans and other diaspora. Even those who hate the current regime cannot afford to see their country bombed back to the 14th century. And nobody should be naive enough to hope that US will bomb just the nuclear facilities and leave the population centres alone. The danger of Iran turning into Iraq is very real.

Let's assume if foreign agency is behind these murders.. were they so stupid that they failed to perceive eventual out come?

Eventually such murders and talk of war are strengthening Iranian nuclear program and only beneficiary is Iran regime!!!!

good move against the evil dumbass americans.

Well when higher education is free, one can study what they want..a luxury not affordable in may countries.

Nuclear science is not about making sandwiches. You would have additional hundreds of coolie grade idiots who took on nuclear science when their aptitude lay elsewhere just because they were patriotic dumbos.

well if they applied to change their field they must have been in a field related to nuclear physics
something like theoretical physics or mathematics or Chemistry otherwise they must pass University
Entrance Exam again
about higher education being free it's not that simple if you are in free Islamic University then you
must pay something about 1000$ a therm for your university and believe me if you are going to rent
a house it cost you more than that a month in cities like Tehran.

in fact I heard in many cases It'll be cheaper for Iranian student to go to India for their studies instead
of going to another city in Iran (if the university won't give them a Dormitory)

Sarasari universities, as we say in Iran, are free (as you already know) and the Sharif university is one of those.
The students in the Sharif university are highly educated and the graduates have been one of the world's most successful people on the planet (I could back up my claims if you want). So if some of these guys switch to majors that are related to nuclear physics it'll surely have an important impact.

yes that's free but sadly If you can't get a Dormitory or can't adopt yourself
with one then the price of the living will sky rocket (a little). honestly the price
of renting a house in big cities is astronomical for a student.

Well. you're right. Sharif university offers a good number of dormitories though (unlike some other universities that have limited number of dormitories), but if someone has problem with living with someone else in the same place then he/she should get a place. but that's not the university problem, it's his/her personal choice. And prices can differ greatly, downtown Tehran is much cheaper than Northern areas of Tehran.
