I was talking about the budget allocated as well and that I didn't agree with cutting the budget in half. I didn't suggest that you said that Diyanet should be disbanded (or tried to give that impression). You said somewhere that 1 billion dollars was enough budget for religious affairs. What are you basing this on? Did Diyanet give a surplus on their budget or something? That is true. Religion should always be under State's complete control and authority. That is why Atatürk created Religionaffairs Institution (Diyanetişleri Kurumu), to not let others interfere religion, but only State.
But this has not only related with the budget. Budget was highest records during 2002-2014, yet we saw that this did not stop FETÖ to capture biggest religious authority in the country. I dont say that budget is not important, it is. But the biggest must is the will of the Government. If Government wants other groups like FETÖ/ISIS to control religious groups, you cannot stop them even if you give $100billion budget to the religious affairs. In Turkish, there is a saying like "hırsız içeride olunca kapı kilit tutmazmış" / "door may not stand locked if the thief was inside"
We need Secular government to fight the mentallity of FETÖ/ISIS and all other cemaats/tarikats, meanwhile $1billion was clearly enough budget to control the religion.
I didnt say that we should disband Religionaffairs Institution, i just said they can do the job with half budget and that money could be so useful in defense projects.
The will of the government is most definitely important, because the government makes the policies, after which all parts of the government needs to do its part to carry out this policy. This is true not just for governments but for any types of organizations / businesses.
Groups like ISIS and Islamophobia in general, they are easily counterable because they conveniently leave out something, and their goal is clear. ISIS wants its followers to pick up a gun or blow themselves up. Islamophobia wants its followers to hate Islam and anything related to it. It's not just religion that gets manipulated by the way. Anything or any topic can be used to manipulate people. PKK for instance uses nationalism. Even secularism can be used in this way like how they did in the former Soviet Union.
The thing about FETO is they are way more sophisticated and (is/was) really good at camouflaging itself to especially it's own followers. Like the president said: "Tabanı ibadet, ortası ticaret, tavanı ihanet". In other words it's followers aren't aware of the true nature of this organisation or its true intentions. Many people that had/still have sympathy's to this group were/are in denial about FETO being capable of this, because of years of how they presented themselves towards their followers and the general public. They made it seem like they were first and foremost about peace and education. I actually compare FETO more to Freemasons or Illuminati and the likes than conventional terrorist organisations. FETO is about implementing its members into the most important positions of society and control the masses. And this is more dangerous than conventional terrorism.
I don't agree with that. Religion should be under control of scholars and academics, like it has always been. And big part of Diyanet is about academics as well. That is true. Religion should always be under State's complete control and authority.
We need academics first and foremost to counter terrorism, and governments need to use their resources to spread this knowledge so they are able to prevent the terrorist's recruitment of new people. We need Secular government to fight the mentallity of FETÖ/ISIS and all other cemaats/tarikats, ...
