Huge gas reserves discovered in Makran

KARACHI: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC) Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat on Wednesday revealed that major gas reserves have been discovered along the Makran coast.

Speaking at a conference in Karachi, Gen Zubair said Pakistan is blessed with minerals worth billions of rupees.

A recent oceanographic survey conducted in the coastal belt discovered huge gas reserves, he told the audience in a QA session.

He termed the youth an asset for country's prosperous future. ‘Pakistan can achieve high growth progress through the information technology and social media in e-commerce.’

Pakistan is sitting on ninth biggest shale gas reserves, he further added.

These surveys are carried out by sonar mapping and navy has that tech. It is good to see that we are using our own resources to do explorations.

What evidence do you have to say that? Pakistanis is very rich in Oil, Gas, Copper, Silver, Gold & other mineral resources. The issue has always been with extracting them. With IK in power now, all these resources would be extracted and sold. I foresee Pakistan in top 10 economies of the world in the next decade.

You need to drill the well and confirm hydrocarbons and test for reservoir parameters.

No "huge" reserves.

Let's see in January 2019 when ExxonMobil drills it's first exploratory well.

I disagree; from a technical point stand point he is talking out of backside. If he is signaling something to an enemy he is making a fool of himself. He is going against petroleum 101.

The projected depths are over 2,500 mTVD (+ addional sea column), you will need to move a big offshore rig to drill to those depths and a significant Wellhead and blowout preventor. The sandface pressures are going to be significant. This would be close to $100s of million dollar operation. These rigs are internationally tracked and commissioned. You will need an experienced drilling service company that charges $100,000s per hour and significant mud program, cementing program, then a completions company to perf', and finally a data analysis with lab services to analyse data, cores, cuttings and fluids.... Pak Navy is not that resource!

Secret drilling is not a reasonable assumption!
