Huge cars price different between Pakistani and Indian Market

Metro is Bus Rapid Transit in the Pakistani lexicon, you can thank Showbaaz Sharif for that.
tbh PTI did it too...
@magra , its buses not train (trains are only in Lahore), they have stations, their own specific area where traffic cant come
something like this

It’s an extension of the existing system which also started construction in the PMLN era.

Peshawar’s system on the other hand is called BRT

In Karachi it’s even worse, the BRT lines are named after colours as if they were heavy metro lines.

There are many cars available in the Indian market with better features that price also starts from 4-5 lakhs... It is really injustice with Pakistanis people because of their government negligence... They are paying the high cost for the basic features cars also..
look at the price of the dollar, local duties and taxes you will understand.

Got it. Buses are a good start but electric intra city trains are the better solution.
They dont interfere with road traffic, they are faster, safer, carry many more passengers, cause no pollution, can be driverless.

Trains aren't required nor is their years-long setting up of special infrastructure. Road traffic needn't exist. Buses and taxis should replace them. Please read my posts from #32 onward.

Buses are fine for Tier 3 towns or where pop. density is low. Otherwise, trains are better.
For eg. Imagine Mumbai without its local train network. You need just an hour to go from one end to another by train. By bus, you would need 3 hours.

trains I feel are kinda expensive so buses for one or two decades except for Karachi and Lahore
but I mean you already have a dedicated space for it, just upgrade it by putting up a rail line - so it wont be hard but expensive in the long run as costs add up

nah but they have dedicated lane where traffic cant come, so its not too bad but yeah trains are much faster tbh

Trains are expensive in the short term but in the long term (20 to 30 years), they give immense value. See how China developed due to its impressive train network.

Or the UK and even pakistan to an extent running on Victorian rail lines

When even Bombay has been cleared of its privately-owned personal transport vehicles ( cars and two-wheelers ) and there has been set up dedicated lanes for the buses they can go at higher speed.

My very point.

Pakistan Railway’s main lines already go through the hearts of major cities.

That is true for India too where inter-city passenger trains have multiple stops through the cities but on that topic we should consider if passenger trains are actually required. USA works just as well without there being inter-city passenger trains. They use airplanes. :)

Realistically speaking you can only slow the increase of private vehicles or at best slightly reduce it. So clearing of private vehicles wont happen. In that case, buses dont solve most of the problem.

US works well only because almost everyone owns a car. Try living in San Jose or Phoenix without a car, it is a nightmare.

Investment in public transport infrastructure requires a lot of capital from the state. This is not always possible - especially so when the countries are not privy to soft loans.

Two wheelers are a more practical option for people in developing countries of South Asia.

Further it also helps that when the interstate system was built many cities used it as an excuse to remove their preexisting transport networks

Models such as the rail+property model could be considered to lower the capital costs.

But what is the deep reason that prevents it from happening ? What if Modi had declared in 2014 that by 2021 the Indian public transport system would consist only of mass transport ( public buses ), taxis and semi-public buses ( owned by schools / colleges and large offices ) ? Why is my idea not realistic ?

1. I was talking about the inter-city passenger trains in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Many people in India will use a train to travel between Delhi and Bangalore whose distance is about 2000 kilometers. Around the same distance is in America between New York and Miami but most people would use a plane. Passenger trains in the Subcontinent are British-era relics which was obsolete. Don't need to be continued.

2. As for intra-city travel in San Jose or Phoenix why can't the government provide lot more public buses and taxis ? If the American government can have a military budget of 934 billion dollars just for 2020-21 then it can spend some money on giving Americans a lot better city life. And wasn't it the motto of Uber when it came out that Americans would no longer need to use their private cars because they could just book an Uber ?
