My opinion is that after Trump lifted the ban this news came out. It's a face saving gesture for Trump. When the trade talks fail next round Huawei will have the os ready.

Trump backed out and Google backed out from their threat and now Americans are acting like Indians on Feb 28th

The apps need to adapt to the OS not the other way genius. That's why apps are designed based on OS. Android basic is already a very powerful tool, the biggest difference is efficiency algorithms, and Huawei claimed earlier it was faster, but all of a sudden after Trump announced that reprieve, Huawei watered down their OS? Designing an OS is not difficult, mass adoption is. get it?

OS for the sake of OS even a child can implement it. All it needs is to fork the publicly available Android repository. But that's not an OS that will sell. Only an OS ecosystem which can bring millions of apps on par with google android or ios (RIGHT NOW ( or atleast with clear roadmap of immediate future) ) on to its platform will sell and can be competitive in international market. Huawei pretended for a while it has such an OS in the wings. I don't know and I dont care whether it was face saver for Trump or not(Is Huawei prime purpose to save trump's face ?). Huawei put its credibility to claim something which simply wasn't true.

They clarified now that they dont have any replacement for google android. So its quiet well known now.

I think there's a backdoor negotiation between China and USA governments.

To prevent Huawei to develop OS for the sake of Google, and as well as Microsoft.

That's why suddenly everything reversed.


I think the bigger picture more than just Huawei OS, China can still produce PC, smartphone and many other stuffs related to USA tech companies, while USA still keeps the monopoly with Windows and Android.

Theoretically if Huawei decides to forsake international market and sell only within China then yes ecosystem doesnt matter that much. Actually thats probably the best way to build it from scratch. But this also means giving up lucrative international profits already built in to huawei manufacturing ecosystem because sometime somwhere in future US will ban android on huawei. Its a tough problem i can understand.

The key point is : did the message given was

a) Hongmeng OS is not for smartphone, or
b) Hongmeng OS is not just for smartphone (only).

The clue is Hongmeng OS is for IoT. What is IoT? IoT includes all things Internet, which is computer, tablet, drones, self driving automobiles, and smart phone etc. etc.
