This actually work out to be at China's advantage. China has about 782,000,000 smart phone users as at Sept 2018 out of total of 1,320,000,000 cell phone (smart and non-smart cell phones) users. That means 538,000,000 cell phone users have not yet switch to smartphone.

Sooner or later these 538 million users will have to buy smart phones especially now that China is going cashless in almost every monetary transactions. If you have been in China recently, you will know the inconvenience of not having a smartphone. Thus Huawei will have a huge pool of potential first time customers buying smart phones.

And when the switch is completed, the smartphone users in China will exceed 1 billion. Imagine just a 10% share in China market is equivalent to 100 million sets of smartphone.

I wonder how many people around world are using smart phones. There are total 7 billion population. I guess not more than 4 billion are smart phone users. China takes 1/4 or 1/3 share. Big enough. US can not kill Chinese company by blocking outside market.

Huawei has trademarked its 'Hongmeng' operating system

Chinese telecom giant Huawei has registered a trademark for its homegrown operating system (OS) "Hongmeng," a confirmation of the company's longtime efforts to achieve technological self-reliance.

The detailed information, which can be found on the website of the Trademark Office of China's National Intellectual Property Administration, shows that the application was submitted on August 24, 2018, and the valid term of the trademark is from May 14, 2019 to May 13, 2029.

Earlier this week, Richard Yu Chengdong, head of the company's consumer business, revealed that the homegrown OS is likely to be launched as early as this fall and no later than spring next year, according to media reports.

This comes as Google cut off Huawei devices from its Android OS following a U.S. order banning the sale of American software and components to the company.

Huawei is reported to have started developing its own system since 2012.

The new OS, which is being tested, will be used as a universal operating system for multiple platforms including smartphone, computer, tablet, TV, cars, and smart wearable devices, Global Times reported, citing Richard Yu.

It will also be compatible with all Android apps and Web apps and come with its “App Gallery,” according to Yu.

But Huawei also sees the challenges.

"It's not a difficult task to come up with a new OS, but it's difficult to build up an ecosystem for that," Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said during an interview on Tuesday.

Currently, Google's Android and Apple's iOS are the two prevailing operating systems for mobile devices.

After Huawei's ban, whole world realized American OS or softwares are not reliable. Not just China, EU may start to develop their OS and softwares. Maybe China ,EU, Russia and other countries can work together to develop a new search engine to replace google. Which will be free from any country's control.

The sword has sharp edges on two sides. Huawei may lose some international markets in short term, but Apple and American tech component suppliers will lose the crazily huge China market that contributed more than tens of billions US dollar to their profits..

The new Huawei OS is able to convert all existing Android apps to run on their OS. So in long term they will be able to retake the lost ground. At the end the price and advance features on the phone will decide the outcome.

It is too early, wait till August/ September. I am Huawei phone user, my EMUI OS is on automatic upgrade mode. (EMUI is the current android OS for Huawei phone, it includes some feature not found on regular android OS for other phones).
