Google Patches Critical Android Vulnerabilities in March 2025 Update

The CVE-2024-50302 may have also been abused by cell-phone forensic company Cellebrite, according to a recent report by Amnesty International. This flaw is believed to be how Cellebrite’s technology bypassed the lock screen of a Serbian student activist’s Android phone.

What’s included in the March 2025 Android Security Update​

Two groups of vulnerabilities are resolved with the March update.

March 1, 2025 Security Patch Level​

Addresses 30 vulnerabilities, including:

• Nine vulnerabilities in the Framework module
• 21 vulnerabilities in the System module
• Emergency vulnerability on the system

The update included patches for 10 critical issues, eight of them remote code execution (RCE) vulnerabilities. If exploited, these could allow an attacker to run malicious code remotely with no further permissions needed.

Critical Vulnerabilities in System​

A separate vulnerability could lead to a denial-of-service (DoS) state that would crash or freeze devices.

The most serious of the three vulnerabilities fixed in this portion of the update is a critical RCE vulnerability in the System component, which could be exploited to execute arbitrary code on a device with no action or additional execution privileges from a user.

2025-03-05 Security Patch Level​

This update also addresses 13 additional security defects in, in addition to all the previous fixes from the 2025-03-01 patch:

• Linux Kernel
• MediaTek components
• Qualcomm components

Security Updates for Android Wear OS​
