How Yunus got the Nobel peace prize without stopping a war -Awami League GS

I'm not criticizing Dr Yunus. He is a decent economist(not at same level with Amartya Sen et al) and excellent entrepreneur. I respect him for that. But I'd not act like a fanboy because he won Nobel peace prize, as that holds no value for me.

But man, Mr Yunus does have some western friends! From Hollywood stars to American politicians to Scandinavian business houses. This guy certainly is an expert at making friends.

@ If it is so then why Sk Hasina cannot make it once she has a big fan like you !!!!!

Awamis are very jealous and incompetent people. These bigots can not appreciate the achievement made by this man and Grameen bank. I am glad that the new generation Bangladeshis finally get to experience the qualities of Awami leaders.

I feel shame some times to be part of Bd land that host such low quality people.

Yeah, we know smartass.

Do you also know that Telenor is official sponsor of Nobel Peace Foundation that awards Nobel prize in peace. Nobel Peace Foundation was about to bankrupt and the Telenor saved it by donating 13.6 million corners in 2006. The chairman of Nobel Peace Prize Commitee was a professor from medical faculy of Oslo University. He received research fund from Telenor in 2006. :coffee:

You should send your input to Hasina... She is desperate to win a Nobel in her lifetime.

According to my input, back in 2006, Grameen Bank had a major dispute with Telenor regarding who'd have the majority stake in Grameen Phone. It seems after winning the Nobel Prof Yunus become too busy to get the majority share of Grameen phone back from Telenor. :coffee:

Anyway all said and done, the truth is Grameen Bank didn't alleviate poverty from Bangladesh except for few exceptional and well advertised case. The only entity that made money in the end is, Grameen Bank itself. G'Night fellows, I'll bust some more myths tomorrow.

Before opening typical indian BS did you even know that Dr Yunus and Telenor has long standing dispute over Grameen phone stake? If anything Telenor would have opposed Dr. Yunus. Besides, sponsors do not have involvement in selection and awarding process.

As usual indians and west bangal people are jealous and hell bent to undermine anyone who has standing in world power corridor. Because indians want to run Bangladesh relation with the world through Delhi, just like Awami League regime is doing and Wiki leak had revealed. So it is not heard to see from where La la bong frustration is coming from.

You can show as many cases as you want buy you clearly don't know how a bank works, do you? Blaming grameen for poverty in Bangladesh is similar to blaming democracy in India for its widespread poverty. It is about giving a platform to the poor to make a change, or those who want to change. Grameen by itself won't automatically alleviate poverty and it is foolish for you to even suggest that, but it did provide the poor a chance or an opportunity which otherwise they would not have had. The awami league government should be ashamed for pointing the finger at grameen bank for poverty, when they have recieved a total of at least 10 years in power and matter of fact adapted policies which made the poor even poorer. Not to mention, some of the claims they made against grameen is outrageous to say the least ( For example, apparently still some % of people live under 2 dollars a day, although 2 dollars a day is big money here and enough to afford 3 meals a day ).
Yes, most cases lie when the poor complain about their misfortune with grameen bank. Why not raise the minimum wage rate to 10,000tk per hour to make the poor happy? Why not take from the rich and give it to the poor?

I know how Bank works but you clearly don't know what you are talking about.

First of all, we are not talking about just another Bank but and entity which won Nobel Peace prize for alleviating poverty. And the same Bank enjoys subsidy and various other benefit from Govt of BD because it's supposed to alleviate poverty.

But now you are saying that it's not a Bank's job to reduce poverty, but Banks are there to make money. I fully agree but normal Banks don't enjoy subsidies and flaunt Nobel prize, do they?

So here's the deal -

1. Grameen Bank enjoys subsidies from Govt, which necessarily means it runs on peoples' money.
2. It doesn't help in reducing poverty.
3. It gets rich.

Am I the only one who can see through this bluff!

Why not raise the minimum wage rate to 10,000tk per hour to make the poor happy?

LOL that will make BD's nascent manufacturing industry to go extinct.

Why not take from the rich and give it to the poor?

That's vintage Stalinist method, we all know how it fared, in the end!

My dear Idune, the dispute in 2008 was over who'd pay the 50million $ fine that Bangladeshi court snapped over Grameen Phone because of some irregularities. Yunus didn't want cough up the money himself and wanted Tenelor to pay the price.

Yes Yunus always wanted to have the major stake in hugely profit making Grameen phone, but somehow didn't have too much time to pursuit the case after winning the Nobel! But his sales speech in Nobel auditorium was heart wrenching!

It will take an exorcist to get rid of the ghost of Indian and West Bengali straw man from your head!

.
Yunus got Nobel prize because of his connection with Telenor.
