Hi,
On my days off, I have the tendency to burden you guys with so many of these posts and my wife thinks that she is a divorcee.
Blain, I believe that the justice dept has opened up too many fronts---all at the same time---all in different directions---the scene is so extremely chaotic---the direction so vague---being familiar with millitary doctrine, all of us on this board would know that it is a big no no. It seems like the supreme court judges have found a new commodity that was unknown to them in the previous regimes----they are acting like kids in a toy store. Suddenly they have found democracy and freedom of speech and expression and they are acting lost as to which way to go.
Confrontation is never the best policy----after the Justice Iftikhar's favourable verdict---the supreme court should gone forward and strenghened its position---better job security----higher wages for all judges from top to bottom---fill up the openings of all the judges that are needed nationwide---possibility of starting up a parallel police agency based on the structure of the U S Marshalls that is controlled by the court systems and is independent of the regular police force. But to do these things one needs to have some kind of a vision and hold no grudge against the govt.
But when I look at the supreme court andthe statements that are coming out from the judges---they have tottally seemed to have lost control of things. Suo moto action here---suo moto action over there---suo moto every where. What has this supreme court become---a suo moto supreme court----this carziness needs to be stopped.
Now coming to blood money----it is not an islamic law but rather an arab tradition which was carried out in arabia. We are not saudi arabia. We are pakistan. The way this law has been implemented, there is no islam in it but total anarchy----there are case where the criminals family have kidnapped victims family members who were not ready to make a compromise---these members were threatened with death. There are instances that where the victims family members have been killed. Where is islamic justice now-----there is no islamic justice here---blain---it is all lies---incompetent nincompoops calling themselves mullah. If there was islamic justice then the perforators of the crime would also have been executed summarily, immediately and on fast track. But there is no islamic law.
Again I bring the example of the young british kid who came to pakistan when he was 18 years old---good looking kid---gets out of the airport---gets a cab at night and wants to go to his family home. Looking at the kid--the cab driver wants to so-domize the kid---pulls out a gun---there is struggle the gun goes off and the driver is kiled. the boy is arrested---persecuted and prosecuted---the court dismissed the charges against the kid-----now holier than thou---the shariat court takes a sort of a suo moto action arrests and re-tries that kid and sentences him to death----shocking---shocking---shocking---disgustingly shocking---a slap on the face of the religions total ideology.
If you had read Musharraf's book, you would have found out that Musharraf himself stated that he was weak on implemented punishment to the criminals---like lashes---he stated that he was the one who stopped the practise of lashing after he saw a person being lashed. Musharraf never mentioned what crime that person had committed.
The tragedy with pakistan is that we have only seen half arsed martial laws----. When these generals come into power they promise to take care of the law and order situation and people aniticipate that these people in uniform will make the difference and give them better protection. When this does not happen, people want to vent their anger at some one. Who does this anger need to be vented upon---It should be vented upon the high court and supreme court judges----remeber those summary courts that would pass sentences and the higher courts would throw them out and the criminal went scott free. Who is to be blamed here---in the U S of A---once the lower court passes a judgement---unless there is any irregularity, the higher court cannot and does not over-rule that judgement. In pakistan every other judgement of the lower court is over turned----if the lower courts are so incompetent then shame on the supreme court judge and the supreme court judges for having incompetent people handling the lower courts. Then these judges should not be taking any cases.
Now about educating pakistanis---I bet you that if you make all the pakistanis rocket scientists, they will still have similiar problems---the issue not the lack of education---it is the lack of moral values---pakistanis lack moral values----pakistanis have a perverse sense of morality----there is so much ***** in our every day language, there is so much perversity in our daily thinking, we cannot speak a sentence without using profanity----we hold the qura'an in one hand,we recite the verses of qura'an in one breath, we give examples of qura'an in every sentence, yet we hold ***** in our other hand, we seek pleasure in using perverse profanity, we enjoy humiliating others with our dirty language. This is totally a moral and ethical issue and not that of education.
Agnostic muslim, pakistan needs to change its police force infra-structure. The policemen and police officers need to be stationed for longer periods of time at one place so that they can settle down with their families in the communities that they serve. They need better wages as you stated, they need better vehicles, they need better communication equipment. The future recruits and officers need to be trained better. Bottom line is that they need to be paid much much higher wages alongwith the benefis for their families. Without providing these changes the police is going to stay where it is.
