The rhetoric is getting old and is misguided- I agree with you on that. When people mention "secularism" what they really mean is not secularism but a third rate Congressi interpretation of it.

Modi is the biggest communalist of them all.

One of his biggest selling points, although not the only one, was to echo the constant whining that the evil Muslims were hijacking the Indian political process, at the expense of the majority Hindus. Never mind the fact that the greatest beneficiaries of quotas are lower caste Hindus.

People started targeting 'Secularists' or rather 'Sickularists' because of idiot people in the Congress and other parties like SP and RJD whose only answer to Modi was that he was communal and they secular.

1. The country lost xxxxxxxx Cr. in 2G scam, Coalgate etc.
Congress: Communal forces killed 1000 muslims in Gujarat, Modi is an evil communal Hindu nationalist. He is also a crony capitalist. BJP is a communal party. Congress must be elected to protect the 'secular fabric' of the nation.

2. The economic growth rate is going down, CAD, Fiscal Deficit is going up, Manufacturing instead of growing at 10% is flat.
Congress: Gujarat Model is a hoax. It is the worst state in India in HDI. Oh, by the way communal forces must be stopped from destabilizing the country at all costs. Congress must be elected to protect the 'secular fabric' of the nation.

3. 1984 Sikh riots occured under Congress rule.
Congress: There is a due judicial process that is going on. We must respect the judiciary. But 1984 can't be used to justify the 2002 riots which were carried on by those rabidly communal Hindus...... @Developereo UP and Bihar where the mass population of Muslims are is a poor backward region of India but compare that to Kerala, or Gujarat you will find Muslims are doing very well.
